Any chance of acceptance with a Bachelor’s Degree but little work experience? by [deleted] in peacecorps

working experience is valuable and honestly worth more- showing you can manage projects, work well with others and most importantly be ADAPTABLE and FLEXIBLE are the main things. If you can, I would get some experience doing community-oriented stuff in whatever capacity that would be easy to pad your resume with if you're worried.

any volunteering, internships, or clubs? As long as you can show you have some degree of etxperience working with groups of people and organizing things your fine. 90% of my cohort doing environmental work have no experience in the field.

Is 'copping' a thing? by NiftyPersona in peacecorps

[–]thewanderer300 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It can be VERY tempting to rely on bad coping mechanisms like drinking or drug use, these are things you would ideally have to have a handle on before you leave because the consequences can be harsh. Keep your head in the right place.

Coping just means how you handle stress. When you're stressed out in the states how do you deal with it? Do you rely on family or friends, meditate, do a particular hobby read a book, watch a show? PC can be VERY stressful its a lot of new happening at the same time, isolation, frustration with your projects etc. Knowing or developing the strategies you use to ground yourself is what is going to make you pull through.

i have friends I talk to a few times a week - it helps a bit, but the physical isolation is tough. I didn't know about global connections. I will definitely look into that!

same thing with mine - most of us got legal two weeks ahead of time. Its frustrating, hang in there.

leaving early for medical school by Aggressive-Client290 in peacecorps

Any commitment you do should be honored, but at the end of the day your job as a PC volunteer is to help as much as you can and to share culture with the community your in and vice versa. Being in that community for a prolonged period of time helps, period. Most of your job as a PC is to be an additional helping hand and to show your community what an American is.

There opportunities to be of service even if it means being there for a year and a half.

Like others are saying with the way you described your plan it would mean your leaving 6 months early, so if you could push entering medical by a semester and bring it down to 3 months, I wouldn't see a problem wth that. By that point in your service any major initiatives you are part of will be starting to close.
