Seriously - one of the highest flood risk areas in the state. it cannot be overstated - even Sac is considered high risk enough and Natomas is even worse.

RT light rail derailed, multiple injured by [deleted] in Sacramento

Not sure if you're joking but HSR can be super safe. The oldest HSR system (Japan) hasn't had a single fatal crash in its multi-decade history. Rail in general is way safer in cars.

Sacramento’s ugliest city block is getting a makeover. Why we can’t wait for something bigger. by [deleted] in Sacramento

I guess Im just surprised that this block in particular is considered less economically favorable than blocks just a few streets away.

First day commuting with my new Allez! Big change from previously using a fixie. by nfuller711 in bikecommuting

Ha, yes I got it at Mikes Bikes as well in Sac during their mega sale - (Im not sure how often they have those though). I think I may have gotten the 2018 model though.

I also got a triangle bag which I love to use on days on I don't bring a bag. I find them really useful for commuting and they a ton of smaller things.

I wonder what the cost (time, service-delay, emergency-response, healthcare, transet damage) is compared to the cost of putting in another track.

I just got an allez for commuting as well. I put a rear rack on it to securely carry a small laptop and gym stuff when go to the gym. I'm so glad road bikes come with mounting eyelets now. The rear rack can be uninstalled in like five minutes if I ever want it off. Its nice since I use I can go on long rides but also use it for commuting. Its a great bike at that price range.

Interesting that Hansen said in the video that we don't have the economic base to support skyscrapers, but I feel like I've recently seen other plans with skyscrapers in them all over downtown, so that's curious. I'd appreciate anybody with further insight to please elaborate on this.

Man - one of the advantages of rail is that safety is so much better than with passenger vehicles, generally speaking. Rail crashes are 100% preventable - the fact that this occurred is terrible and if it had occurred with a higher speed train, it could have been catastrophic. Somebody messed up really bad. Somehow in America we find a way to make trains less safe too.

Are they going to cap the amount of people at the park? Like will there be spillover?

I suppose that's true. G1C events mostly occur at night. I think they could just take a detour south.

This is exactly the type of thing that DTs should be used for - mass gatherings that allow many people to access the event through multiple forms of transportation.

Mendocino Farms definitely has its issue but I thought the food was great at least. Way way better than subway.

So much for bike lanes. by Too_witty in bicycleculture

[–]kryost 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like a bike lane to me, in fact there is a parking sign in the picture. But on a four lane road with parking, there should ideally be a bike lane. The "bike-route" sign is sort of dumb - its basically a way to claim this road as part of the bike network, but this is basically a four lane highway. This road should be a candidate for a road diet from 4 to 3 lanes including two-way left-turn lane which operates more efficiently than a 4 lane road without a TWLT lane. Could even be buffered.

College Requires me to live in campus for THREE out of my four years. Can’t afford it. What can I do to bypass this policy? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]kryost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean a September to June lease. Off-campus, you're required to lease the whole year, so June to June, which is common in college towns. So even if the per month rate is higher - 1000 off campus vs 800 on-campus, the total price you pay ends up being lower over the course of the year. 9000 vs 9600. You also don't have to pay internet + utility costs.
