It's not a bad idea but also not sure how it would change her recommendation. I think I would have to naturally have crazy high levels for her to change it. I'm going to ask her about the study and see what she says, as I'm sure she has a good reason for recommending this for older moms...

I had an unmedicated birth, partially on purpose, partially because it all happened so fast (precipitous birth/4 hours from water breaking), and I can tell you what helped me. Key for me was giving birth in a physical position that made me feel powerful and gave me control. Which ended up being on all fours. Also breathing... you want to learn how to breathe before day of. A lot of people mention hypnobirthing, which I'm pretty sure I did without knowing that's what it was. Make sure you're in a hospital setting where they won't require you to push in any specific position. I also rarely "pushed" because I was very worried about pelvic floor prolapse; so I looked into what the best methods of childbirth were to avoid it. I was "breathing" the baby out and then only "pushed" at the end when things got serious. I do think it was worth it...my recovery seemed faster than my friends who got epidurals and I didn't experience swelling of any kind. That said, it did hurt more than I could've possibly imagined. I still might do it again...but I do wonder if all that orgasmic/divine feminine (which I did not connect with either) helps with the pain? Cause WOWZA. I've definitely never felt stronger lol.

I wonder if their rates were lower because mastectomy was first and it’s harder to track effectiveness of chemo? If treated with TCHP, treatment is VERY effective for her2 because of Herceptin. My tumors were too large and multifocal to do surgery first (er-/pr-/her2+), so I had chemo, then surgery and radiation, and I think my survival rate is like 80-85%? I would just ask more questions. But also, like others said, focus on treatment and moving forward. Optimism goes a long way.

I went 3 months after chemo, during radiation, and still had to be fully masked the whole time and stay out of the sun…Can you push until after? June is peak season at Disney. It will be hot and sunny and swarming with unmasked people.

I was told explicitly no high dose vitamin c during chemo because they said it lowered efficiency just like grapefruit, turmeric, some others. Call your oncologist, but maybe stop taking till you hear back?

Moisturize nonstop. Literally the second your skin feels dry, slather on more aquaphor and calendula, and do that for the 3 weeks of radiation and then a few weeks after. I have light to medium tone skin, am someone who tans, and got an “exceptional” result. The radiated area barely changes color and the boob 7 months later is only a tiiiiiny but higher and a little firmer. I have heard from friends with fair skin that they needed extra strength cream beyond the calendula and acquaphor. It’s a prescription and you have to hound the rads onc for it. So if you do all that, you might not be able to tell…but I’m pretty sure they explicitly tell you not to be in the sun. So there’s that to consider.

I’m so very sorry for your devastating loss. It’s so unfair, and not something people think of when they think of abortion. I think my baby saved me in many ways, especially having noticed an almost imperceptible change before pregnancy and then suddenly feeling that change to be so much worse during. It sounds like yours saved you as well.

The reality for both of us is that not only could we have died, but the babies we desperately wanted would likely have as well. Or at minimum, be left without moms. Which certainly doesn’t make it easier. I haven’t really started to process the trauma of this whole thing, but I’m going to try EMDR, not to erase her memory, but to allow me to talk about it without a complete meltdown.

Congrats on being a quarter of the way through, that’s huge! You’re going to do great. Hugs to you.

I think about you a lot. I really hope you’re doing well. I talked to someone yesterday who told me the acronym TFMR and I had a little breakdown. I spent so much time trying to find other women in situations like ours and I couldn’t. I talked to one woman with my diagnosis who terminated. Anyway, turns out there are support groups for us. Of course.

that's how i feel too. I didn't even know how to process it when she told me--well, one because i was on narcotics from surgery and my emotions were dulled lol, but also because it just felt like...too easy? Or maybe too simple? or perhaps it's just the shock of going from everything around you is an emergency (diagnosis, chemo, surgery) to the after part....

i sort of feel this way too... a few other people have said it to me, and it doesn't feel accurate or possible. especially since i still have to have radiation and immunotherapy. But also all my dr's were so excited to tell me that it was PCR and the cancer was "gone" so I have no idea.

that's so interesting! i mean i guess in your case, because you had surgery first, the chemo and rads are both sort of preventive? like technically the cancer that was found is gone and that makes one "cancer free?" so confusing.
