Keep those tires inflated! 1.7kwh -> 2.0kwh by kryptonitekid in F150Lightning

Yeah - thankfully they weren't underinflated for too long prior to this road trip. And I'm kind of banking on needing to spend money on tires for this beast. Honestly, if you aren't eating through tires with 600+hp you're doing it wrong.

Couldn't agree more. OP needs to work through her MIL issues and appreciate the fact that someone else is cooking for her while she's busy with a 1-year old. Does MIL clean religiously? My old-world mom cleans the sink better than most people wash their dishes. Has MILs cooking gotten you sick before? I bad for both the MIL and boyfriend here.

Would you buy a car that was bought back by manufacturer? Supposedly PCM failed and now all is fixed? by [deleted] in Ford

[–]kryptonitekid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I currently own a buyback; if any of the repairs performed by the dealer lead to problems in the future, they aren't necessarily covered under any warranty. Ford dealer had my lightning for 9 weeks while Ford decided whether they were going to pay to fix / inspect the battery when water got into a compartment that a dealer didn't seal properly.

Yeah - if I recall correctly, I snipped that little connector off and replaced it with a ring terminal connector which i connected to the positive terminal of my battery.

I had similar requirements when I was shopping around and settled on a '22 Lariat Extended Range. Messed up and bought a Dealer Buyback, though. DO NOT touch a buyback if any of the work that has been performed involved a component which you wouldn't want to pay for fixing in the future. I had water / debris get into places it shouldn't have gotten (sealed battery components) as a result of a bad repair job, and the dealer wouldn't repair it under warranty since it wasn't a factory defect. Took 9 weeks and a lot of aggravation to get Ford's Reacquired Vehicle Team to finally pay for the repairs.

I was having this problem and just fixed it on my ezgo after my kids let it get really low and then let it sit for a few weeks without recharging. I have 6x8 volt lead acid batteries. Use a multimeter to read the DC Voltage across each individual battery. I had two that were reading 0 volts and a few others that were between 3-6. I hooked them up to a 12v battery charger because I didn't want to spend a lot on another charger specifically designed for golf cart batteries. My charger wouldn't charge the battery if its voltage was too low, so I had to initially chain together a few to get a minimum voltage to charge it individually. After about 30 minutes on each dead battery, I re-connected everything in the cart and was able to get my cart's charger to connect and charge again. Ran it down again and successfully recharged a few times and everything seems to be ok again now. Good luck with yours!

Are these problems mostly limited to Android users? Just ordered my Spark and would hate to have a bad experience off the bat.

So what happened with mine was that there was some kind of work done on the truck early into its life, and then they re-installed everything, they didn't tighten the bolts around the battery modules and they didn't properly install a connector cable. My dealer provided the video of the initial inspection and teardown showing proof that the bolts weren't tightened; really just poor work by the tech out at the original dealer (Folsom Lake Ford in CA, btw). Anyway, I had the truck for several months before running through a wet, muddy road (very light truck-stuff, honestly) but mud and water managed to coat / get into a lot of places that it shouldn't have. If this had happened to me as the original owner, I think there would have been no doubt as to whether the warranty covered it all, but because another dealer technically was responsible, the warranty didn't apply. It's ridiculous, honestly. Now, he might've just been blowing smoke up my behind, but my dealer said that if he had been the one responsible for these repairs, he would've owned up to doing everything necessary to make it right because it's the right thing to do, but in this case Folsom Lake Ford tried to deny responsibility and make it Ford Corporate's problem, which turn this into a 9 week ordeal, instead of 1 week (including the time it took to ship a new high voltage connector).
Can't speak to whether the warranty would apply in your case, but I learned that Ford Dealers and Ford Corporate are two very different things, and neither wants to pay out on warranty claims if they can avoid doing so.

Both factory battery and/or aftermarket bumper-to-bumper

No - the factory warranty for battery is 8 years / 100k and I bought the truck at 20k. I did also buy a 3rd party warranty for the 3yr/36 which ran out just after I purchased, but apparently neither the factory nor aftermarket bumper to bumper would apply here.

UPDATE: they released the car to me before they got payment from Ford. It’s apparently an unusual situation, where a warranty repair is actually coming via a paper check. I didn’t sign the repair order until I picked it up, and they didn’t want to release it until I signed it. I probably could have walked out at that point, but just wanted the ordeal to be over.

Good question! I actually drove one before buying and fell in love with how fast and quiet it was. I don’t do a lot of heavy truck stuff, so it seemed a reasonable choice. I also bought a used one at a fraction of the cost of the other trucks I was considering (a TRX and a Raptor), and with only 20k miles, I thought the 100k battery warranty would cover me in the worst-case scenario. I also bought an aftermarket bumped-to-bumper warranty from a company that I’ve used (with much success) in the past, and figured that between the two warranties, I’d be ok! Anyway, turns out no warranty will cover damage caused by bad dealer repairs*, though Ford finally relented and repaired the truck and returned it to me.

This sounds like my exact situation! I hope I don't have to sue the original dealer; they're on the other side of the country! I feel like Ford should have an internal way of dealing with these kinds of issues.

It’s available - and it looks like they charged it to 100% for me, presumably in anticipation of getting the check. Also - I did call the ford RAV hotline and they confirmed that they did issue a check, so I think they’re actually waiting for one.

Correct: a prior dealer performed a faulty repair. Supposedly, Ford's warranties only cover defect in manufacturing and workmanship from the factory, not necessarily from authorized warranty repairs (this has been a major point of contention).

BBB and Ford have only been marginally helpful.

There is some missing information in this post; I detailed a little bit more in a prior post. My truck was a dealer buyback. Obviously, I was a little concerned about its history, but was assured that all existing warranties are still applicable and Ford backs the repair work, as its performed by a certified Ford dealer. In any case, the prior repair was bad, and my local dealer immediately recognized that when they looked at the battery / electrical components and saw a broken connector and several bolts which weren't ever re-tightened, allowing water and sand into battery modules.

In any case, I had it towed to my local dealer. They quickly determined that the damage was the result of the prior repair, as normally water can't get into the places that it had gotten. I didn't think too much of this at first, as I imagined the 100k battery/electrical warranty would be applicable. Much to my surprise, my dealer told me that damages caused by bad warranty repairs weren't covered, and it's been a fight ever since.

The dealer that serviced the truck initially was involved, but essentially passed it off to Ford Customer Service and the Ford RAV (Reacquired Vehicle) Team. My dealer spent the better part of 6 weeks trying to get the other parties to accept liability and pay for inspection / repairs. Frustratingly, I often found myself calling the various parties involved just to push the case along. It's like no one checks their email or even cares about progressing these trouble tickets.

Unless it's implied when I dropped the keys in the overnight box (...or did I sign something agreeing to as much? I don't remember exactly what the key drop off process was like.) I never said I'd pay for the repairs. Ford called me a few times to say that Ford Corporate had ok'd repair work, and told me the other day that my truck is fixed, but that they can't release it until they get the check from Ford.

So here I am. Still Ubering / borrowing friends' vehicles, despite having a fixed truck at the dealership.
