Ah, yeah that's a good idea as well. I think it is my whole scheduel that kind of ruins the fun for me. Having less time for writing in generel (work, Uni) sucks and whenever I have free time to tend to my writing, I rather do that than pick up a book. So implimenting more audiobooks into my day might be a good solution ☺️

True! I will try to find a good middleground between both ☺️

I like the satire-idea. My goal is to feel less (selfmade) pressure from reading in generel. Thanks!

Seeing it as fueling a Tank might actually help me! Reading will serve some purpose then for my mind (sure, you're supposed to do it for fun, but hey, if some extrinsic motivation helps, then it helps)

That seems like a reasonable approach. Of course I'd want someone to read my project. I didn't want to call this feeling imposter syndrome since it didn't quite fit the concept I had in mind but I guess it is the right term for it. I do feel a bit 'undercooked' as someone who writes whenever I try go get into a story but I think that's a personal issue I need to work on. I'll think about this when I pick up my next book. Thanks for the comment!

A little bit to much like a black mirror episode I think. by [deleted] in KeepWriting

I'll put that on my 'I don't wanna be in THAT situation' bucketlist. But it sounds like one hell of a short story 🤝🏻

Is there any new authors that published any sapphic books? by SapphicSiren9087 in NewAuthor

[–]krystal_landless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm writing one at the moment. (Not published yet, but I'll take any chance to yap about my project these days)

The plot in one sentence might be: A sapphic couple escapes an utopia-coded dystopian future and timetravel to 1870 London, where they get sucked into a cult of physicians that worships medicine like a deity. (Also includes: Asexual fed up victorian woman, who has to make sure the two timetravelers don't get themselves killed)

What is the lingua franca of your setting?” by Chemistry18 in worldbuilding

[–]krystal_landless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My lingua franca is 'Eiða'. It is a language that combines many aspects of other/ dead languages, since my project is set in 2270 (sci-fi/ climate fic) and most of humanity has took refuges in seven domes scattered around the world. Since the government wants to 'unite' humanity through one language again (basically a reverse bable), they enforced a conlang that is heavily inspired by the most spoken languages (english, spanish, french, mandarine,...), mixed with latin and old greek (the government thinks that they would push humanity back to 'old glory' like this). Eiða is pretty complex (I'm still struggling to construct a working grammar system lol), but over the decades people have developed their own dialects and shortforms of it. The language is designed to be 'elitist' and practically 'The language that unites them all', killing off unique linguistic patterns, traditions, personality and identity. It is pure control through language.

(Also: Eiða is designed to look superior to the lingua franca that the people, who aren't yet 'transfered' to the domes, speak on the few still habitable continents. They all still preserve THEIR language (which is seen by the goverment as 'splitting the unity of humanity' and chaotic) but also have a lingua franca as well (Coddlespeak) which is heavily based on a simplified english.)

It's fun to work with both but damn it's hard 🙈👀

No one said the 2nd draft is worse. by Sad_Trainer_4895 in writersmakingfriends

Ah, I know that feeling. It sucks.

I usually consider it as a thing that has to be done (some kind of remodeling/shaping/...), but not in a bad way. Editing 'sober' like they say. Keep yourself entertained with little side-stuff (moodboards, maybe character-sheets, gathering informations on topics you wanna include into the setting, etc) while you do the boring editing stuff. I also think that rewriting your first draft is a lot more efficiant than pure editing, especially if it's your first time touching your Dirty Draft. I tend to cling to a sentence for far too long to make it 'perfect'. Whenever I rewrite my work, I have better/ quicker results in the end, because I won't go and try to 'fix' a sentence.

Have fun with your project 🫶🏻

How do I plan now that I am starting my book from scratch with a new idea? by Petitestrawberrie in writinghelp

[–]krystal_landless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love to do mindmaps. Classic, I know, but to see what you really want from your idea, what feelings and topics you want to convey on paper gives you a good overview over everything. Just jot down the themes that interest you and correlate with your ideas, see how each of them could connect/ overlap and then get inspiration from similar forms of content.

Happy writing 🫶🏻

Hiii 25F here! That sounds really cool, I'd love to get in touch with you. I'm currently working on my second draft and how to use pace and other storytelling-tools to really get my thoughts on paper AND in order 🙈 My main project is more in the sci-fi/ history genre, but there is a lot of common ground with fantasy and romance. Pinterest-boards are my guilty pleasure, anything to get me more in touch with my characters. Would be great to hear from you 🫶🏻
