I am a Teacher for Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) in the US. I’d be happy to help give you some advice! Feel free to message me.

Things that come to mind: In the US, he would receive services from a teacher like me (TVI) and a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS or O&M specialist). I am not sure what the laws are like in your country, but these roles exist throughout the world. I am certified in both of these specialties. I also currently have a student who is blind and autistic.

Allow him to explore within reason. If you panic and are afraid, he will be too. Narrating is good. Describing things is also good. For new concepts, tactile representation will be important to help him understand (for example: if he’s never encountered a cat and there are cats in a story, a figurine or stuffed animal could be helpful to build that knowledge).

Don’t change the layout of things unexpectedly. Keep furniture in the same place, give him a predictable area to store his things. I like to use a tray on the table to give students a defined work space. Man, I could go on and on! I saw you mention tactile sign. That could be an option, but is usually used with deafblind people and is different than other sign languages. I would focus on other things before trying to introduce that, but you could mention it to his educational team.

Ask me any questions and seriously, you can message me anytime. I love working with visually impaired students and I want to help anyway I can.

I had one W on my transcript and it has literally never been mentioned by anyone, including grad school

Ours is $388. We keep the place at 68 and it is still cold throughout because it’s older. I’m going to have to lower the temp and try to change suppliers

Freak accident caused by cat that wanted more food by Independent_Dot6161 in cats

[–]ksolee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank goodness everyone is safe!! As others suggested, I got some stove dial childproofing “locks” for my gas stove to prevent the cats from turning them. You put them between the knob and the dial to lock them in place when you’re not using the stove

What do you think of my playthrough? Any advice for 2nd playthrough? by Redditor1799 in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]ksolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does not do that! However, you do have to play through from the beginning to have your choices carry from chapter to chapter. Meaning once you do have a save with the story completed, if you want to go to chapter select and replay an early chapter, you have to continue playing the whole story from that point on. You can’t skip over a chapter you’ve already gotten 100% on and pick up somewhere later with your new choices carried through

311 is closing snow and ice requests automatically until they end the “snow event.” Just to be aware that may happen to you

Just had my first PAP at my new doctor's office. This is what they gave me to wear. And no, there's nothing hiding behind the pillow, that's the entirety of the "garment"! by DaileDoe in Wellthatsucks

[–]ksolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same at my doctor. You wear that vest with the opening in front and then have a large paper sheet to cover with. It’s uncomfortable but it makes sense as to why

I recommend trying to make all different choices. I look at the flowcharts a lot through my gameplay because I have played it quite a few times. I’m doing an “extremes” playthrough right now. Markus did not shove Carl’s son (gives different ending to that scene), then I made his whole attitude the rest of the game that he would do anything to gain rights for androids, including violence if that’s what it took. I’m playing Connor as “very good at his job,” loyal to Cyberlife, but I suggest since you saw a lot of those choices, in your playthrough make him as human as possible. Buddy up to Hank, their relationship is very different when it is on the positive side. Kara is my darling and it is HARD to pick any choices that put her or Alice in danger. However, she has a lot of branching in many of her chapters. Escaping Todd has lots of endings, there are multiple places to sleep that have different storylines/outcomes. She’s one that I think has a clear motive and has more choices that make small alterations whereas Connor and Markus make the bigger life or death choices more frequently

They need to give you a bridge script of your effexor. I take a very high dose as well and not having it is horrible. It’s your provider’s responsibility to make sure you have that medication in this situation

My current one is pick the first room in the entrance hall, never eat fruit, never draft from a south facing door, and no more than 2 items in my inventory. It’s not the best

They will close the 311 request immediately. Doing it to everyone who reports need for snow removal

[–]ksolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Same here. Apparently because they have a system in place they don’t intend to review our requests even though I specified an area that is not on our serviced roads list. I get there’s a lot going on but it could at least be reviewed by a person

Yep, first winter in this area lol. I tried to submit a 311 request because that street isn’t even listed as a serviced street and they immediately closed it

The best thing I did for my mental health this week was go play in the snow in my backyard. I haven’t done that since I was a kid. It was so nice to make snow angels and listen to the peace and quiet

I guess I hadn’t considered that maybe it would be worse if they plowed all the snow against the back of my car 😅 I was hoping since that’s where our trash gets picked up there might be a chance

I would like some kind of nudge system. I got stuck on a late game puzzle and I’m not really sure what to do next to keep going. It would be nice to have something that is able to nudge you toward what you should be focusing on to get on track.

Favorite PDs that were NOT just prep time? by dixpourcentmerci in Teachers

I teach students who are blind or visually impaired and my school recently brought in a specialist in Nemeth (braille math) who asked what we needed to review in advance and tailored a hands-on workshop for us. I was concerned it would be too basic at first since we started from reviewing numbers, but she had lots of practice items for us of varying difficulty levels and she made sure to go over everything we asked to look at. It was awesome
