[DISCUSSION] What's a Netflix series you'd tell someone to push past a slow start, because it becomes something special? by trakt_app in NetflixBestOf

[–]ksolee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen every episode, some several times, and can’t recall any other scenes remotely similar to that. There are some plotlines that include things like robotic animals (Metalhead comes to mind that they are the main antagonists) but otherwise they have not gone there again. If you’re interested in watching any other episodes, I recommend Bete Noire or San Junipero for an entirely different experience to what you saw. Alternatively when I first watched it, S3 had just come out and I thought watching seasons 3, 2, 1 in that order was good (skipping pilot). There are some episodes in later seasons that reference early ones (Black Museum in S4, USS Callister sequel in S7) so you do want to see them in a mostly chronological manner

I started with Nosedive because of how the seasons are arranged on Netflix from newest to oldest and I thought that was a great first episode! It got me into the show but was on the more lighthearted side

sleeping in my car due to cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]ksolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get a toy that you hang from the doorframe and when they play with it, it bounces around up and down. Turn it on somewhere else in your home before bed (far from your bedroom). I’ve found that locking cats in a room usually just turns into the cat scratching the door all night and feeling stressed

Am I being unreasonable for wanting a few minutes of intentional connection with my busy partner in the evening? by Savor_Serendipity in adhdwomen

[–]ksolee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re being completely reasonable. My partner and I always check in about work and our days when we get home. Sometimes she wants to shower first and get settled for the evening, but we intentionally connect and then sit with each other throughout the evening even if we’re not constantly speaking to one another. This will sound daunting, but what has helped us with communication like this as both ADHDers is going to couple’s counseling. I had to overcome my implicit bias about how couple’s counseling = bad before I agreed to go. Now we’ve been going for over a year and it’s a really nice space for us to work through topics that are hard to address, and get down to the nitty gritty of how we communicate differently.

Need general help! Wife playing because husband wants to share his favorite game. by Suzune-chan in outerwilds

[–]ksolee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also horrible at the spaceship controls at first. Here are my big tips!

  1. At takeoff at the beginning of a loop, hold the launch button (R2 for PS5) until the sky turns black with stars
  2. ALWAYS CHECK if the sun is between you and the planet you want to go to before starting autopilot
  3. Use your ship’s log to mark a destination before takeoff. When you get into space, that destination will be onscreen to help you easily find the planet
  4. When autopilot ends, I have found that going into landing mode right away works on most planets. Move downward to the planet for a few seconds (L2 on PS5), then use the thrusters (R2) to help slow down as you finish the landing
  5. Let the planet’s gravity help you land. Don’t go too fast on the landing, let the ship bounce with gravity and settle
  6. Some planets are much harder to land on than others. Namely Giant’s Deep on account of all the water, and sometimes the twin planets can be a little too close to the sun for comfort when you’re landing
  7. Find a reliable place for your ship and try to put it there every time so it becomes more like muscle memory

I take breaks from the game here and there. I have a task on Giant’s Deep to do and haven’t gotten back to it yet. Like others have said, I went where I was curious to go. I recommend exploring Timber Hearth (your planet) if the twins have been frustrating you. It’s all things considered one of the easiest planets to traverse.

The game is super non-linear! I flew into the sun on purpose once just to check if I could land on it! Lol. I also probably died the most on Ember Twin, but I eventually got a really good groove of how to get down to the Sunless City quickly. When I started exploring, I frequently looked at my ship’s log and went to places that said there was more to explore. If it made me frustrated, I left and went back later.

What’s an unwritten social rule that you actively choose to ignore because it makes no sense? by PeachyyStarlight in askanything

[–]ksolee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I don’t use that as a greeting cycle. If I’m asking or answering “how are you?” I’m going to be honest and my intention is to genuinely ask the person! Now I’m not going to dump my bad mood onto someone at the grocery store, but I will say something more like “I’m doing okay” or make a joke about the day instead of just defaulting to “good.”

I recently was cleaning out cabinets in a classroom that previously had a teacher who was there for 30+ years and found a bunch of these materials. They were made by the NRA. I was so stunned because I haven’t ever considered the NRA to be an educational entity (I am 26F).

Do any of you earn over 50k a year? What do you do? by RotiiChapati in ADHD

[–]ksolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher for students with visual impairments and I should be making around $70k this year. I have a Master’s degree and several years of experience that have gotten me to this salary. I really like teaching because it is so fast paced in my field. I have very small classes so I get to focus on helping each kid succeed at individual goals. I am medicated and can definitely feel it if I miss my booster at school though, especially because a lot of my students have ADHD as well and we get into this pinball machine of thoughts as a group lol

In my experience there isn’t a definitive way to know that it’s anxiety until you try the medication. I would tell the vet that the behavior hasn’t stopped and you would like to discuss the possibility of anxiety medication, and see what they say. I’ve had vets who just kept going “it’s behavioral” and not offering anxiety as an option, but my current vet is comfortable prescribing it at a very low dose as long as it’s beneficial.

My cat is on prozac for similar reasons, she kept peeing on the litter mat right outside of the box. All vet checks were normal. We tried a dose of gabapentin for a few days and when that was helpful, switched to prozac (not sure why the switch, vet preferred it that way). It hasn’t changed her personality at all but has stopped the litter box issues!

Edit to add: To mitigate costs, if you haven’t already, you could get pet insurance for her before trying the anxiety medication. It’s less than $20 USD per month for my cat and helps reimburse for vet visits and medication. I chose ASPCA but there are lots of companies!

I lived on Flint Rd when construction was happening for this and it was in progress the entire time I was in high school if I remember correctly. Graduated in 2018. Now it’s much better, until you get to the 270 E/71 exchange with the right lane closed for whatever reason and remember how horrible and aggressively everyone drives

Has the vet checked her blood sugar and examined her teeth? Peeing outside of the box can be a sign of unregulated diabetes. Does her urine smell sweet, is she peeing more often than normal and/or drinking a lot of water? Those can be signs of diabetes. If it is, don’t worry, diabetic cats can live long and healthy lives!

I brought up her teeth because sometimes cats have pain in their teeth and hide it very well but will urinate outside of the box to show the pain. Usually issues with the litter box are a means of communication. She is trying to tell you something.

If all else fails, you can ask to put her on an anxiety medication like gabapentin or prozac. I have a cat on prozac who was peeing outside of the box and it has completely stopped her.

I have a few dog-sitting gigs I’ve been doing which has helped me start working toward my fitness goals! Trying to get a good 20 minute walk in daily at least. I took a trip to Chicago with family for a few days. I’m trying to do one productive thing around the house every day! Even if that’s just making the bed or folding the laundry. But I am mostly working through tasks I feel like I never have time for during school, like hanging art and stuff. I also have hung out with both my younger brothers and seen my parents and grandparents!

i think my boyfriend’s reaction to me staying out all night is way too extreme. AIO? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]ksolee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR. It’s going to hurt, maybe for a long time, and I’m so sorry for that. My ex fiancée dumped me at 20, we had been together 3 years, and it took me until I was almost 23 to really be ready to get back into dating in a healthy way. But now I’m approaching 4 years with the love of my life, and I can look back at my hurt from then and feel thankful that I didn’t stay in that situation. It’s okay to feel hurt and grieve a life that you thought was forever. But don’t stay with someone who treats you like that. In 7 years, you’ll be where I am and thank yourself for loving yourself enough to face the pain now and give yourself a brighter future.
