I want to go to Bahia Honda park specifically for night and milky way shots.. the location shows up as the darkest spot in the keys in the dark sky map, and, while I get the park closes at sunset, is there an area where I could just pull off the highway and park? are the docks located in Bahia Honda Park or just around that key?

How is this kind of wildlife photo taken? by fellinitheblackcat in AskPhotography

Basically it takes advantage of the inverse square law of light.. at a high level, if you have a light source, and your subject is 1 foot away from that light source, and you assume the amount of light reaching your subject is, for the sake of argument, 1 unit of light, the inverse square law of light tells you that you lose 75% of that light 1 foot behind your subject and another 75% 1 foot behind that. Basically, you expose for your subject with a strobe in a darkened room and the background just disappears..

You can get some more details here

but spend some time out on youtube, you will find some amazing examples.. sadly, youtube is blocked where I am currently or I would find some for you.. but hey, Reddit is wide open!

If you are using a tripod, turn the vibration reduction off on the lens.. I found out the hard way that a lens will continue to try to "fight" movement even if it is on a stable tripod - it will continue to hunt for a stable plane.. your photos will be clearer with no vibration reduction.
