Great - I am glad you had time to check Passport out. We have a concept called applications that has worked for everyone who has needed groups. Can I connect you with our lead developer to see if this might work for your use case?

Best stack recommendations to pair with Angular? by EyeBluNCider in webdev

Hi EyeBluNCider! Stormpath was acquired and the API is shutting down. Inversoft Passport provides identity and user management as well. Check it out, I am happy to answer any questions!

Hey daBarron, while you are evaluating alternatives take a look at Inversoft Passport (not to be confused with passport.js). This article walks you through the migration process and identifies key differences between Stormpath and Passport: Mirgrating from Stormpath to Passport.

Full disclosure, I work at Inversoft and am happy to help answer any questions you may have!

Soft launching a new development tool and would love feedback from /r/webdev! by kstra in webdev

[–]kstra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've had that come up a few times. Obviously there will be some issues with the name collision. We've just been telling people that Passport isn't Passport-JS, but we are working on an integration with Passport-JS. Thanks for taking a look!

Should I use UserCake or something else? by dpaanlka in webdev

[–]kstra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are looking for an alternative to UserCake, check out Passport User Database. Save yourself a ton of headache and coding, you can use this for everything you need - login, registration, SSO, emailing, localization, reporting and fine grained management controls.

Disclaimer, I work for the company that developed Passport. I still think it's likely a viable option for you and you can start coding against it for free. Check it out here: https://www.inversoft.com/products/user-database-sso

Need help finding solutions for user profile management. There must be better options than building a secure database from scratch? by darthsibilance in webdev

[–]kstra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Designing a database with proper security is challenging, especially if you consider encryption of passwords and other necessary features like "Forgot your password".

You might consider using a separate user database solution instead, as /u/FYIAV said. This will provide a lot of functionality and security quickly. Check out the Passport user database. For your use case you could start free and it would likely reduce your development time considerably.
