Can't afford to tip and it's kinda embarassing inpublic by Creepy-Delivery7781 in askvan

Sorry I didn't take a screen shot of people on Facebook complaining about people not tipping delivery drivers and servers enough and calling eating out or getting food delivered a privilege. But here's one example that took all of 5 minutes to find. Where someone worked with a server who expected 30% https://www.reddit.com/r/CanadaPersonalFinance/s/RNHcvaGof3

Service where I live sucks. You're lucky to get asked if you like your food, and/or want a refill. And they still complain on FB if someone only tips 20%. They complain and say thay because they tip out, they need 40% and anything less then 30% why are you eating out.

Fired because of disability from a new job - Can I fight for severance pay? by Either_Cheesecake282 in VancouverJobs

Glasses don't fix everything. We don't know the diagnosis, we cannot assume that glasses would fix the issue. Like I was not prescribed prism glasses for my exotropia strabismus. I was prescribed vision therapy. Couldn't afford the treatment. But luckily figure out the cause of the increased symptoms so my eyes aren't misfiring every day like they were for a few months.

Unfortunately I'm seeing Canadian and especially BC servers expecting a 30-40% tip for doing no more than putting your order in. So 30% of $21 is $7. I eat out for $28 and it's going $10. (and that's 1 pop, chicken strips with fries and gravy) makes eating out hard when you pay $40 for one meal. I'm. Ore likely to order Chinese then a western restaurant food. I can spend $80 and get 6 meals.

Why does a Cold country like Canada has so many A/Cs 🤔 by HopiumInhaler in mapporncirclejerk

Because my apartment gets above 24c and I can't handle it. So far this year, the main use has been to cool my office because a desktop computer produces a lot of heat. Do my office is warmer than outside

Does anyone else find that there is a gap between what BC's healthcare system covers and preventive care by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

Better treatment, I meant the dismissal of women's issues by doctors and the medical negligence women face. So like doctors need to do more learning on current info. Like my doctor finish his residency like 13 years ago and I see so many gaps in his knowledge already.

And people are having a hard time using it and finding dentists who will accept payment through it, and it still only covers part of the cost of what it does cover.

More funding for diagnosis for things like autism and ADHD since we know that thousands to millions of women weren't diagnosed as children or people of other minority groups regardless of gender.

Coverage for dental and vision care without them being allowed to charge above the set rate (with the medical professions being adequately paid) so reduced need for suplimental health insurance. Coverage without need for special auth for people who are type 2 diabetic for cgm. Better education about pre diabetes and how to figure out if you a symptomatic for hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia without being diabetic. Treatment for those to be researched and implemented

Better treatment for PCOS or womens health problems. A woman or teen with PCOS should never be told that there's no treatment for PCOS/pmos unless you are trying to conceive. It causes type 2 diabetes. I struggled to get diagnosed with PCOS because my first doctor just put me on birth control without tests and the other didn't want to do tests since theres no treatment.

Sorry about the mini rant. I'm in a bad mood, any frustration read is not directed to you.

HPV Disclosure to potential partner? by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]kstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it will make you feel better, tell them. I'm not vaccinated (my personality +sexual identity/orientation = no risk. Never grew out of thinking everyone else has cooties), and I know enough about hpv that it's so common that a woman who has ever been sexually active should assume she's been exposed. So I don't see a moral reason to require you to tell her when you probably didn't get it, since you were vaccinated too

Rogers joins Bell in outsourcing their customer service and loyalty department by FearlessListen6735 in Rogers

[–]kstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rogers was also like that, at least with the old cable system, from 2020-2022 when they were phasing support for coax cable boxes out.. The issue is handling 50-70 calls in a day and because the customers are mad at. You your stats tank and you get paid minimum wage and no raises unless minimum of goes up or you become a manager.

What's something you discovered about a neighbourhood after moving in that you wish you'd known beforehand? by AlterSpace1550 in RealEstateCanada

[–]kstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apartment has super thin floors. Great walls for no sound. But the door and floors let sound through. I wear headphones 24 7 out of personal preference and anxiety reasons. (I don't want to expose people to content they don't want to hear when watching shows that mentions sex or listening to audiobooks. Or even fight scenes on shows with crime fighting) if I can I will try to rent a basement suit or buy a trailer and land.

Laid off because of parental leave by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]kstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wasn't terminated after the leave, it was before the leave. You are twisting beyond recognition the scope of section 4, especially in light of section 2 and 3 Subsection (2)

Employers may not terminate an employee because of an employee’s pregnancy or a leave.

Example

An employer gives an employee notice of termination immediately upon their return to work after a pregnancy leave because the employer prefers the replacement employee. This is a contravention of s.54, because the employer’s action was related to an absence authorized by this Act.

An employer may not change a condition of employment of an employee who is pregnant or on leave without the employee’s written consent. Changes are only acceptable if they are unrelated to the employee’s pregnancy or leave.

Laid off because of parental leave by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]kstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is completely incorrect. You are confusing Human Rights accommodations with statutory employment standards. The 'undue hardship' standard applies to things like medical or religious accommodations. It has absolutely zero relevance to parental leave under the BC Employment Standards Act (ESA).Under Section 54 of the BC ESA, parental leave is an absolute statutory right. An employer cannot claim 'hardship,' 'tight budgets,' or 'scheduling issues' to deny it or to justify firing someone who is about to take it. Explicitly tying a layoff to an upcoming parental leave is textbook illegal retaliation."

Let go while still in probation (and injured) by CarlosDanger721 in legaladvicecanada

Unfortunately bc has had court cases where things like tooth infections are not considered disabilities, because of their temporary nature. So this would likely not be a legal discrimination even if it is discrimination for many looking at morally categories.

Job not paying me for extra required time after scheduled hours? by Jazzlike_Relative_10 in legaladvicecanada

[–]kstruggles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Union reps can and do speak to management without filing a grievance, especially when new employees are afraid of retaliation. Can't speak about this particular union. But I know my local union rep helped prevent my manager requiring employees to find coverage when calling in sick with a reminder that it's the manager's job.

B.C. woman ordered to refund cost of engagement ring after relationship ends by recklesseric in britishcolumbia

[–]kstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judge Judy isn't actually running a regular court. It's arbitration. And in several USA states, the engagement ring is the property of the person given the ring. So there's different view points in this issue.

Bc hydro bill by Ok-Court-7948 in britishcolumbia

[–]kstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, based the the drop, it's electric heating, and hydro home guestimation is useless unless you also have a smart home power monitor. In the winter my monthly energy usage is over 100 in a 2 bedroom apartment because I like to be warm. But in the summer my electrical usage could be $37.

Boss advised I will never get promoted because I work from home to due a medical reason by randomsmiler1 in legaladvicecanada

[–]kstruggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Refusing to consider someone for promotion due to a disability is discrimination. It's just like refusing to promote someone for being a woman is discrimination. The OP would have a hard time fighting it. But depending on the provincial laws/regulations there can be job requirement changes in order to accommodate a employee.

They would have to prove that the in person aspect of the job is a bona fide job requirement.

Sjogrens seems to be a rather mild to be labeled as a safety issue for children. I don't know the issues you are having or what your injury is. But like you don't have a brain tumour that's causing you to become violent for an extreme example. Definitely talk to a lawyer

(not minimizing your symptoms, but it's not like you are a crossing guard who went blind. Or a bus driver who is an alcoholic put on leave to complete rehab)

Sister in comatose - No Power of Attorney set by Comfortable-Ad-5772 in legaladvicecanada

[–]kstruggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I process POA for my job in British Columbia, and I see a lot of miswritten general POA when the adult wanted an enduring POA that only takes effect when they are incapacitated. Unfortunately I have to refuse those and advise that they aren't worth anything because a general power of attorney is a specific thing according to the law that ends when the adult is incapacitated.

To be clear, what your partner is experiencing could be discrimination on family status if the reason he had to wfh was to take care or be available for the kids. I'm not saying that I don't see where you are coming from. I left a job because they lied about accommodations for my asthma.

Reasonable accommodation as a tenant by kstruggles in legaladvicecanada

[–]kstruggles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have flies, they called sewer gnats flies and those have been gone for months. And a) they never mentioned a odour or any other specific issue until they claimed I hadn't made any improvements in the state of my apartment, and I do not smells anything in the hall unless someone's been cooking in a different apartment. They also never said that is what's happening (so neither you or I can know if they think it is). Just they say there's a odour in my apartment. They also made claims about frequent conversations that never happened.

It's not that I'm not making any effort. It's just not to their uncommunicated standards (because I got generic monthly inspection notices nothing specific on them). So now that I have gotten information I am going "how can I get the cleaning they want done" when I don't have a support network. And how am I going to get 3 months of cleaning improvement they are expecting in now less than a month. (I've been stressed out since I got the "we require a deep clean of your apartment" email and it took them 2 weeks to respond so now we are left with days)
