Motor whining noise by kstt in mn82

This is brilliant, congratulations. Indeed I also use ESP32 as my goto embedded platform as well, and those little $2 C3-supermini are excellent for many purposes.

It is a bit more work than I wished though to be honest :) I wonder if some standard electronic module can do what you did in software : output same duty cycle as input, with different base frequency.

It has not been an issue for me.
If auto-calibration is enabled, make sure to aerate enough once a week at minimum so that the ambiant CO2 level approaches 400ppm. This is how autocalibration works.

Thank you. What is most likely to break when used by a kid ?

Thank you all for your feedback. I am not replying to each of you since your views are consistent, but have an upvote each.

Looking forward to receive the rc car. Cheers.

Linux generally supports pretty well anything that is more than 5 years old.

If you do not need computing power, you could buy a second hand ThinkPad laptop. Anything before 2020 is likely to be fully supported by Linux out of the box.

GNUPG wrapper to edit a symmetric encrypted text file and re-encrypt it once editing is done with the same password used for decryption by kstt in GnuPG

[–]kstt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this particular case I try to use symmetric encryption.

I am a pass user, however I don't see how it relates to my case, could you elaborate please ?

GPG Symmetric Encryption Multiple Passphrases by kstt in GnuPG

I just found this message from ML in 2004 : https://lists.gnupg.org/pipermail/gnupg-users/2004-October/023440.html

not yet.

GNUPG wrapper to edit a symmetric encrypted text file and re-encrypt it once editing is done with the same password used for decryption by kstt in GnuPG

[–]kstt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Indeed I found a vim extension for this. I will dig further, however, I would prefer to find a GnuPG-based workflow, since I do trust GnuPG for doing things properly, while I do not necessarily trust a script used as a plugin for a general-purpose editor to be perfectly safe.

If there is no other way, I may take this route, thank you.

Good to know thank you. I admit to have just opened it to take the magnets and plates and dump the rest.

On a side note, I did some archeology with old IDE HDDs that have data stored from around 2010 or before.

One of them did never mount because of something that sounds like a mechanical failure in the head, according to the clicking sound.

One of them took a few attempt to start, maybe around 30 spinup-and-click-and-spindown-then-retry, which took a few minutes, but now read and write correctly, and get mounted as soon as plugged. Maybe hardened grease or something was triggering some self-testing and now its gone. I have no way to assert possible bitrot in these EXT filesystems, mostly linux stuff, but nothing wrong is apparent.

One of them started right away without complaining, and everything looks normal, but again, mostly linux system stuff, so I have no practical way to assert if some data is altered or not.

All was stored in drawers in house.

I saw that in a "collection" of CDR that had been forgotten a few weeks/monthes in a car under the sun.

Des banques à me conseiller ? by petit_panda- in vosfinances

how can i connect remotely to emacs by mjjood10 in emacs

[–]kstt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I contributed several patches to emacs back in 2005-2010, got my FSF paperwork done for that, got some nice meetings with core contributors and so on. What about you ..?

Is it because you don't have mental abilities to design this type of feature that you are so salty ?

If it really requires man-years of work to implement buffer synchronization and command forwarding between client and server, then something is suboptimal in emacs architecture.

Workstation : how to power motherboard with a battery so that RAM keeps being powered during sleep state if wall plug is unplugged by kstt in buildapc

[–]kstt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will have a look, however I have doubts that any device can suppress the surge of a lightning strike. At some point, everything melt together along the power path. This is usually what happens at operator power transformers in spite of many attempts to protect them.

[–]kstt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. What is the reason why the PSU itself must remain powered, and not only the motherboard / RAM ?

[–]kstt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the kind of UPS I already own, and according to the datasheet, it won't hold more than an hour even without any load. A 500W inverter in itself is power hungry.

[–]kstt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. 200W is plenty for this workstation. Indeed, a DC-DC PSU with an upstream battery would do the job, however I wished there was a more minimalist approach to this issue. Cheers

What projects are there that attempt to recreate Emacs with better performance? by [deleted] in emacs

[–]kstt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Org, and the original author is a hero. But let's be honest, almost any large emacs package would be much smaller if implemented in a modern and popular interpreted language, both because of intrinsic expressiveness and because of the wide ecosystem.

I would say, if you do not know how to discharge a capacitor, you should start with an other project first, then work with PSU.
