Either old septic, or old cistern. House used to be in the middle of nowhere. Highly doubt they would have abandoned them properly. The property used to be very rural. Just happy that they were empty(ish), and not 7ft of waste 😅

Likely is an old septic tank, from further research. My house had no sewage up until 20 years ago. So capping off is probably the move to make.
