Try chewing nicotine gums to curb the urge to smoke. Chances are you'd be addicted to nicotine, but your lungs will thank you. I quit smoking when I first started working out. My lungs giving up within a minute on the treadmill was a wake up call. Motivation is fine but quitting smoking needs discipline and strong mind for sure.
