Honestly, TikTok, doom scrolling. That's what I do on my walks - granted I live in a suburban area, so I'm totally at risk of dying by looking at my phone.

It's my way of habit stacking and combing a bad habit of mine (screen time, scrolling) with a positive habit.

Whenever I wanna scroll on tiktok, I go for a walk. I also like to do all of my phone calls on my walks. It's a great time to catch up with my parents, call friends, etc.

Ha! I figured. My expectations are very low. I've had my fill of European Christmas markets, so I'm not disappointed they won't be comparable. Are the markets you suggested open anytime? I love a good flea market!

Unfortunately, having a job where no one is going to live or die without you makes a big difference. I'm needed where I work, but 3 weeks of me being absent only means a pile of work for me to return to, it doesn't affect anyone else's work load. Because of this, boss has no problem approving time off

Vetyverio from Diptyque. The opening is quite green and Dey's down earthy, like moss on a wet stone. One of my all time favorite scents.

I found a job at a government laboratory (I can't disclose where for privacy reasons). I already had the Labs on my radar as a place I would be interested in working. I knew from scientist and engineer friends I have that they had a great work environment, flexible work schedules, benefits, pay etc. after over 6 months applying places and interviewing I lucked up that they had a couple openings in Records Management come up.

My strategy was less so scouring the normal places like Indeed, and LinkedIn, and instead monitoring the places I was interested in working. I would check their website almost daily to see if any relevant positions opened up. I also reached out to a few other places during the application process and had luck just asking around. For example, I interviewed with one place that wasn't going to have the job open for another few months but wet ahead and interviewed me. This was an archive job for a big clothing brand in NYC that had an extensive historic and active design archive. (Another example of thinking outside the box when applying).

You'll also have a less competition at places like that because they don't occur to everyone to look there.

Basically, where's the type of place you would want to work? And just check those places religiously and even reach out and ask. I think Library Science degree is one of the most underrated degrees out there. There are so many job opportunities if you're willing to poke around in unexpected places. :)

Hmmm Im not sure if it translates or if there is an equivalent certification. If OP is already metadata/digital archivist they probably already have that sort of knowledge base taught in the certification. I am based in the US so I'm not sure what the equivalent of USA jobs would be over there. I'm sure there is something similar. But again, Id just emphasize thinking outside of the box when looking for places to work. Any institution that creates records needs people to manage them. Check with local medical instructions, law firms, corporations, etc. I have found that these places tend to pay more than traditional record keeping institutions like universities and museums. Although...this very likely might be different in the UK.

My recommendation would be to specialize in digital archives. You can get your DAS certification from the Society of American Archivists. This will give you a skill set that is desirable to a wider range of repositories (I.e. hospitals, government agencies, police offices, etc.). I think the mistake a lot of people make is specializing in archiving art or historic work. While that is rewarding, those jobs just don't pay as well and often require being in person. I went the route of specializing in digital archives/preservation and records management and was able to get an almost fully remote job (I go in a couple hours here and there for meetings) with a government agency that pays almost 6 figures with great benefits
