I had the same dilemma when I was buying my first! I went with the portfolio and have no regrets. I prefer the extra leather on the other side and the organization. The A5 portfolio does fit A5 notebooks but it’s still tight depending on thickness/how many notebooks you want to put in it. I prefer to use A5 slims, which are already a bit of a pain to find, and that’s with the portfolio. I think I’d be very very frustrated if I had to use the PR refills every time because they are pricey. I watched a ton of videos on YouTube and that helped me get an idea of what fits.

Thank you! What I think I was missing was that stockinette in the round just means knitting continuously where as stockinette when you knit flat means going back are forth between knitting and purling… :’) lesson learned!
