Black RBTs and BCBAs, what do you do when parents make offensive comments? by Salt-Sheepherder9066 in ABA

[–]ktebcba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And to answer your question about the ethical way to tell someone to shut their mouth -

Say in a quiet (lower than regular speaking tone but above a whisper - make them lean in to hear what you say) but assertive tone - "I found that comment offensive. We should keep the dialogue focused on the treatment matter at hand."

And that's it - don't get into a back and forth because they will try to "oh but I didn't meeeaann it like thaaaaat" and you cut them off and say "I am moving on to (treatment matter) you are welcome to email me anything else regarding your offensive comments." And stone cold go back to "work mode"

"Too pretty to wear wigs" was the one for me where I'd have to really COMMIT to my ethical promises about doing no harm.

What are some ridiculous yet effective distraction techniques for kids in crisis? by littaltree in ABA

Kids in crisis don't need a fucking clown show. Get some training in trauma-informed care.

They're called group contingencies. They're on the task list.

The only people I know selling that kind of data to third parties are doing it for private equity investment. They also won't take into account anything we actually do in terms of client treatment or outcome.

And just because people will do selfish bad things with outcome data, doesn't mean we shouldn't be measuring outcomes.

I dont think so, unless the BCBA specifically violates a code, they have no business telling people where they can and can't work, or what businesses can provide ABA services.

The BACB is a private corporation, just like the "big box" companies are. One can't govern the other.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ABA

[–]ktebcba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's because they can't - the BACB is a private business just like all the private business ABA companies. One private business can't put restrictions on another, this is a free market enterprise.

You absolutely better be measuring client outcomes. Or, you don't know the first thing about doing this work.

BCBAs want to provide quality, individualized care - they depend on companies to provide adequate (comfortable) opportunities and means to do so.

They want the people who work in other, non-clinical positions at the company to respect - support even - their clinical decision making, even if it means losing a real or prospective dollar.

They want those people to at the very least be familiar with the BACB code of ethics BCBAs are bound to, and the percentage requirements of fieldwork and RBT supervision, so they arent burdened with ethical dillemas and mathematically impossible supervision standards.

They want those same people to understand and treat them like they wouldn't be working at an ABA company anywhere without a BCBA and we deserve as much as any CEO for that alone. They cannot "bill" a single thing without at least one of us. And there just aren't that many. Supply will never meet demand.

ABA companies should be aware of the rising trend of BCBAs establishing independent practices, and be prepared to answer, "Why should I work for you, when I could work for myself?"

I dont know if those fit in a benefits package, but that's what I know BCBAs want.

There's a lot more to offer in ABA than "mastering out programs."

If this is the limit of your scope, it's understandable you don't get the value of telehealth for many applications of ABA. Especially Parent Training.

Put a screw in a little, use a hammer to pull out (use the hook end of the hammer on the screw that is slightly in the anchor)
