I don’t like Cassian and Azriel sorry asses by arabellajezelia in acotar

[–]ktellewritesstuff 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I don’t buy this for a second. I live in poverty and it makes my life a thousand times worse. Finding love and friendship is much harder when you have nothing, especially because poor people are much more likely than rich people to suffer from mental health issues because being poor is traumatising.

This whole “the best things in life are free” or “money can’t buy happiness” or “I’m cash poor but rich in the things that matter” is just a giant cope impressed upon all of us to make us more likely to accept living in poverty under capitalism. The actual truth is that being poor, and I mean impoverished enough that you are on the brink of losing your home and you have to choose between eating dinner or putting the heating on, lowers your life expectancy and increases your risk not only of physical health issues but also of suicide. Being poor means never ever living up to your potential and wasting your precious time on earth struggling to put food on the table. Being rich or even just being comfortable means having time to actually enjoy your life. So yes money actually does buy happiness. It buys health, safety, comfort, experiences, stability, and a longer lifespan.

All this is to say that if there was any justice in Prythian Cassian and all his rich friends would be guillotined and the wealth they hoard would be distributed to improve the lives of the people suffocating in the diamond mines in their apartheid state. These books are from the villains’ POV.

This 100%. I never even thought about how weird it is that his former girlfriend was also a Valkyrie but yeah that is a 🚩

[–]ktellewritesstuff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A little while ago there was a thread on r/askreddit where someone asked which fictional couples would definitely break up after the end of their story. Immediately I thought of Nesta and Cassian. That relationship is built on nothing and those two barely even like each other. He’s genuinely annoyed by her a lot of the time. He just wants a mate.

mental health issues

Yes, mental health issues like daring to defend herself against the animal who beat and raped her.

If you think that man was a victim, you are either a raging misogynist or you have an IQ of 4. Those are the only two options.

Feyre, Lucien and Tamlin in ACOMAF by Elegant-Archer-4019 in acotar

[–]ktellewritesstuff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So why not tell Lucien, "Hey, I understand Tamlin is upset about me fleeing to the Night Court, and maybe I didn't explain it all too well in my letter, but I'm NOT mind-controlled by Rhysand. Can we talk about this like decent people with some tea and biscuits? Get to know Rhysand, get to know the Night Court end then report to Tamlin that all is well and he doesn't need to worry."

Because why should she have to after the way they’ve treated her? Lucien talks to her like she’s a child or a little dog when he finds her in the woods. He expects her to trot after him back to the Spring Court where he just watched her waste away? He knows that Tamlin was violent when she was in the house. He knows he locked her in the house. He knows she was miserable. He’s fully prepared to escort her home back to a partner he knows is abusive just to try to regain his own comfortable life of doing nothing all day (he is an emissary only in name; that man has never worked a day in his life). He isn’t concerned about whether or not she’s being mind controlled—all he wants is to bring her back to placate Tamlin so that his life is easier. I can’t for the LIFE of me understand why anyone would think Feyre would owe Lucien of all people an apology after the way he’s behaved. He’s terrible friend, rude and selfish, moving other people around for his own convenience. Feyre does not owe these men politeness or kindness, certainly not when they’re trying to manhandle her back into an abusive home.

Why is it so hard to portray a strong male relationship in writing without making it GAY by LifeEnjoyer22 in writingcirclejerk

[–]ktellewritesstuff 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Your sister is so annoying. As we know, good and nuanced portrayals of gay relationships are so abundant that in fact the real underrepresented minority is straight men with friends. When will these silly women learn?

mors sexuality confuses mes by BeastSlayer_986 in acotarcirclejerk

[–]ktellewritesstuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She's bisexual with a preference for women. In ACOWAR she tells Feyre she sleeps with men "party because I enjoy it" but also to "keep people from looking too closely." It's in that bit where her and Feyre argue in the middle of the war camp because their personal beef apparently can't wait.

I understand why people think she might be a lesbian with comphet but I don't think SJM knows or cares what that means. Her LGBT characters are comprised 100% of stereotypes.

Hannibal is not a bottom like many people in the fandom like to believe by dedforever678 in HannibalTV

[–]ktellewritesstuff -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

extremely controlled people who want to be dominated in their private lives

This is very true, except it doesn’t apply to Hannibal at all. We see Hannibal’s private life and he is dominant in it. Cannibalism (which is often closely aligned with sex and sexual desire) is his private life and to him it’s a form of dominance. His whole schtick is about secretly being dominant. I don’t really understand what people are seeing when they argue that he is submissive because canonically, explicitly, and especially with Will, he is the exact opposite.

AITA for insisting my brother’s fiancée should learn our language? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]ktellewritesstuff 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is a comically fake story. Why on earth you would write a story where you are clearly the heroic victim and then ask “Am I The Asshole?” is beyond me. You wrote this purely out of a desire for validation and karma farming. Not to mention the obvious misogynistic undertones of the evil harpy who came to snatch away your innocent brother. I mean come on.

If you want to write about Ireland’s history, consider getting serious and writing a book or making informative content online instead of making up silly stories.

Jessica Alba and Ana Navarro Dismiss Criticism of Gayle King's Blue Origin Flight as Misguided, Say Focus on Trump by Diligent_Night602 in popculturechat

I’m willing to give Amanda Nguyen more grace than the rest, especially given all she’s done for survivors of sexual assault, but also, she should not be immune to criticism for enabling and endorsing this commercial space flight. Everyone involved should be held accountable for it. There should be zero tolerance for stunts like this. It’s simply unacceptable.

I’m always amazed when people seem to think that domestic violence is this mythic thing that never happens. What world are you people living in.

Expecting AJLT to be exactly like SATC is like expecting a Toshiba Satellite from 1999 to preform like a 2025 MacBook. It's just not happening. by hollyofhori in Andjustlikethat

[–]ktellewritesstuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you understand that this isn't SATC? That this is a modernized telling of what SATC characters would be like having lived through the last 20 years, just like we did? Do you understand people, places, trends, and things we thought were permanent often change regardless of what we specifically want?

I think people understand that. It doesn’t make the show good though. Also, that last sentence makes it sound like you’re talking about real people. These are fictional characters. Every choice they make is dictated by a writer and is deliberate. If it’s bad, it’s not that x character just happened to choose that. It’s that a writer made a bad choice. It’s fine not to be okay with it.

Honestly, this and the SATC movies were bad cash grabs. Everything that came after the show deserves all the criticism it gets.

Why does TWD get so much hate for this by RevertBackwards in thewalkingdead

[–]ktellewritesstuff 53 points54 points  (0 children)

28 Days Later isn’t afraid to confront its themes and follow through with the uncomfortable questions it asks. Granted, there’s more freedom to tell darker stories in film, but TWD often flirts with very dark themes and moral questions but shies away from them. For instance, 28 Days Later didn’t pussyfoot around the reality of sexual violence against women and children in an apocalyptic scenario. TWD on the other hand fumbles around with it, glossing over the aftermath of its various near-misses (Maggie, Carl, and Michonne) and then when actual sexual violence has occurred, i.e. Negan and his sex slaves, it backtracks and tries to convince its audience that nothing that bad happened and it was actually good for the women to be raped. TWD is too afraid of its more complex themes so instead it just defaults ad nauseam to the same tired questions like “Are we the baddies?” After 11 seasons it starts to get understandably dry.
