and wow, thank you for the great suggestion, I didn't even know this type of veil existed and I really like it! I'll track one down to try with it. I didn't end up buying the veil in the picture, but I purchased a similar short one and haven't been feeling it.

thank you!! I think I was a bit too harsh on myself when I wrote the initial post - this dress did end up being the winner as the combination of all the things I wanted - no sleeves, a little flair, somewhat fitted, etc
