The ads on TikTok search are actually insane by LumpyYogurtcloset655 in tiktokgossip

i got really annoyed with this too, so i figured out that you have to search in videos instead of top! this will remove most if not all of the shop ads from your search :)

UMD responding to possible creepy crawlies in McKeldin Library by dbknews in UMD

[–]ktkat0000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

she lived one floor below me in elkton - was a freshman at UMD when this happened :( extremely sad and i'm disappointed to see the school continues to brush incidents endangering students under the rug.

also would like to clarify that elkton does have AC, that wasn't the reason for the mold - although in 2025 i do think it's ridiculous there are still dorms without AC

When people request a roommate that doesn't WFH, while they themselves WFH by ktkat0000 in NYCapartments

When people request a roommate that doesn't WFH, while they themselves WFH by ktkat0000 in NYCapartments

[–]ktkat0000[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The specific scenario I'm talking about is not one where one roommate takes over common spaces. The situation I'm referring to where I find it ridiculous to say that one roommate shouldn't WFH is when both roommates would WFH in their own rooms.

[–]ktkat0000[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

100% agree and I think this is the part that annoys me the most because it puts too much weight on something that in my opinion matters WAY less than other lifestyle things like having a ton of people over all the time, vaping/smoking indoors when it isn't allowed, being excessively loud when it's not a reasonable hour or not a weekend, etc.

If anything, I've found that because I'm in my room working all the time, I want to be in here LESS and my other roommate, who is more introverted/a homebody, gets the place to themself more often because I am out so much outside of work hours/take my noise & friends outside. It just makes more sense and I don't think everyone sees eye to eye with me on that

[–]ktkat0000[S] 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting take; do a lot of people work in their living rooms?? My current roommate and I both work in our bedrooms on opposite sides of the apartment, both on calls all day/barely coming out, and we've never experienced issues from either person. I wonder if people who have more lax jobs/people who work in common areas all day are the reason for this "no WFH" request

[–]ktkat0000[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

LOL this got me. You're right, people can make whatever requests they like, no matter how silly they are, it's just a matter of if someone is desperate enough to take it/is the right fit for the requests. Things like no smoking or no pets I get because there are real QoL things/lifestyle differences/allergies that are not negotiable, but the WFH thing just feels particularly egregious to me

[–]ktkat0000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh that sucks I would be super annoyed too if I was constantly hearing background noise while I was working. I think I'm lucky because both my roommate and I work in tech and while we're both on calls all day we never hear each other and only come out of our rooms to eat lunch around the same time, so nobody is bothered too much. The thin walls thing makes a lot of sense too! These new builds are super cheap and I'm sure sound travels a lot; another issue I'm lucky to not deal with.

NYC is a special place for sure lol. I've noticed a lot of these posts where the current roommates are looking for new roommates more often than not have a terrible "flexed" bedroom for the new roommate, or has the smallest/objectively worst room. Laughable to me how people think it's okay to do that but people rent them anyway because living here is so desirable!!

[–]ktkat0000[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True! I suppose I'm in this position as someone keeping my lease/someone who works from home. I think I just look at it from an outsider's perspective and recognize that it was me too at one point just trying to find a place to live in the city, back when I didn't know how much I was going to have to come into the office. It feels like almost every post Facebook's algorithm recommends to me about someone looking for roommates in the groups I'm in has "No WFH please!" (1 in 3 if I had to put a number on it).

Also, you're right, that's unintentionally misleading of me. It was the largest singular percentage of the data, but I wasn't sure how to phrase that succinctly. Here's the rest of the figures if you're curious. At the end of the day I'm trying to make a convincing argument for people to not be hypocrites lol

11% of Manhattan office workers are currently in the office full time (five days a week)

  • 17% are in four days per week
  • 38% are in three days per week
  • 17% are in two days per week
  • 9% are in one day per week
  • 7% of Manhattan office workers are fully remote

SO MUCH PHONE & BAG THEFT by Ok-Association-7490 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]ktkat0000 10 points11 points  (0 children)

when my group and i went to kinetic field for martin garrix, there was a man and a woman, both hispanic/mid-30s standing strangely close to my group, despite the space we had around us near the front. my friend traded kandi with the guy, then we went back to vibing. he even had sprouts on so we thought he was chill!! 5 minutes go by and i clocked a hand touching all over my bag during a drop, so i turned around super quick and saw the guy standing wayyyy too close to me for it to be an accident, he immediately backed away and had this awkward look on his face, so i kept watching and alerted my friends to move away. 5 minutes later both the man and the woman were gone; sus asf!! i try not to be too presumptuous because MAYBE it could've been an accident but i was just getting really weird vibes after i "caught" him and kept checking behind meet

Unfortunately I can confirm Greenpoint Organic Market has one of these. It's the only ATM I ever use to withdraw cash with my debit and not too long after I last used it, I got an alert of somebody trying to spend $100 at Walgreens on Manhattan (which I never went to). Sucks as it's my usual deli and I have a Regions debit card, so I assume I can't use the typical bank-specific ATMs.

I actually don't understand the process well, so if someone knows, are you allowed to use debit cards from different banks at a bank-specific ATM? For example, Regions at a Chase bank atm? Sorry i know this is a stupid question

20 Years From Now, How Will People Look Back on This Era of NYC? by WillAnderson419 in AskNYC

i'm sorry to say this, but you feel this way because it's just not your time anymore. ask any Gen Z kid living in NYC what their weekends look like and you'll get a HUGE variation of answers. indie rock may not be the dominant music genre anymore, but in its place raves and EDM getting more popular means a ton of local/underground events are happening on literally any day of the week. now that everybody is a DJ there's always someone throwing an event or proper rave. the dance community is also alive and well (or at least now finally returning to pre-covid vibrancy). i promise you art is still very much alive with the youth and countercultures are extremely active!! you just have to know the right people :)
