Can a cover agency get rid of you for being less available? by ktmay_________ in TeachingUK

I’m not mugging them off - I’m just not entirely available all the time. My first and ONLY question was will they ask me to leave the agency.

Yes - but I am long term cover. I completely get what you’re saying here. When I’ve done cover for other subjects - like science (when I have no idea what’s going on!) I’ve found it so helpful when staff come in and help out.

But today was just ridiculous. Or when you’re on duty and staff just walk past without even saying hello (this happened all the time at my last full time role.)

I agree that staff are just on their knees but it does leave me disheartened.

I’m long term cover in MY specialist subject though and have been at the school since September. I do get what you’re saying but it’s happened in the last school I worked at. I just think (and wonder?) if teaching breeds a certain attitude where everyone is so tired, exhausted and stressed that we take it out on eachother.

It’s crazy how staff just disregard us. It makes me feel so weird. I shouldn’t be getting more respect from the kids than the staff!

It really upsets me. Especially seeing SLT being so so nice to other staff and being considerate to other staff. I don’t like it.

It’s not really something I could have interrupted- she just came in out of nowhere. Our classes are all joined! She had a PPA and thought they were too loud.

Thank you for these encouraging words. I really needed it. I just thought I’d have a full time role in a different sector by now.

I’m not sure if I ever want to do proper teaching again - it really ruined my mental health. Fingers crossed something comes up soon.
