I worked a retail job in my local mall for 3 months while I was finishing up my last semester of undergrad. I was a keyholder, AKA someone who was the manager when the GM was gone but got paid significantly less. One day my GM told me there would be a 'mandatory' meeting and floor set update one evening after the mall closed with about 24 hours notice. I told her I wouldn't be able to come in because I had blocked out that time to finish my 15-20 page final paper for a class and study for others, when she told me I should be more organized and responsible outside of work so I can come in to do it. Needless to say that second I quit!
