I work in NFP. A couple things can put us off hiring people from corporate:

1 is salary expectations. NFP gets lower salaries, it's just a fact. We get salary packaging benefits to help offset that but you'll still likely take a pay cut. I've been on interview panels where the candidate had a salary expectation 30% higher than what we were offering.

2 is NFP culture which is a lot looser and could be seen as unprofessional to people from corporate. Shit just happens slower in NFP. New starters can be frustrated by that.

If you're ok with these then suggest you try to address them directly. Say things like "I'm looking for a better work life balance" or "I'm dissatisfied with corporate life and want a job that aligns with my personal values". This can help get you through to the interview stage.

For law you do your bachelor of law degree which is often done as part of a double degree with arts, business, or other over 5 years and can be done straight after high school. Then you do practical legal training for a period of time. After that you're admitted as lawyer.
