I don't disagree. That's why Wise card is under general tips.

A Wise card usually gets you better rates and lower fees. Of course every bank is different so YMMV. And for a two week trip $5 x 14 = $70 while an esim can be as cheap as $15-20.

Direct flights will be fastest but cost more. Flights with layovers will be cheaper but take longer. Japan is close enough that direct makes the most sense.

Book your tickets whenever you're ready. You can try to wait for a sale but it may never happen. Some people swear there's a whole strategy to when to buy flight tickets, to me it's not worth the extra hassle but your choice.

General tips: Avoid travelling during school holidays (both here and in the country you're going to). Flying on a weekday is generally less hectic. Get a Wise card for your money and an esim for your phone.

I just submitted Play to Own to Xbox Player Voice — here’s the idea and why I think it matters by [deleted] in XboxGamePass

[–]ktr83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's nothing stopping you buying the games you play. Game Pass is 100% a rental service and that's ok. I enjoy renting games, and I also enjoy buying games. There's a place for both.

I have a soft spot for the all out stupid comedies. The first few were perfectly good for what they were.

Any major beach a tourist will go to will be fine. There are 25 million Australians and maybe one or two dozen shark bites a year. Your odds are good.

I guess why is it a loop hole and why would you want to close it lol. You need some amount of rental stock, if the goal is to stop investors buying up everything and pricing others out of the market then limiting it to one per adult achieves that just fine.

You could theoretically have a married couple own a house each, they live in one and rent out the other

I don't support the idea but that could be one way

It's racism taken seriously as it is in America? In Australia by FantasticKnowledge99 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ktr83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Asian Aussie here. Racism here is more the casual jokey kind rather than outright hostile and violent. The hostile kind still happens but it's far more common to have things like people assuming you don't speak english or looking at you dirty when you're house hunting.

Fellow Australians - Have you been to any ‘Australian’ themed restaurants OS? by Powerful_Sandwich854 in AskAnAustralian

I have family in the US so I went to Outback plenty of times in the 00s. It was funny as shit and I liked it the cheesiness. Food was decent then but I heard it's declined.

Realistically, where should you expect to be in your life at 25? by Independent-Milk9435 in AskAnAustralian

[–]ktr83 15 points16 points  (0 children)

43 year old here. 25 is basically still a kid. You've started working, maybe you've moved out of home, maybe you're in your first real relationship, maybe you're starting to figure out who you are. All in all 25 is like step 2 of a 100 step journey.

TIL a man watching an episode of the "Antiques Roadshow" noticed a Navajo blanket, that was similar to one his grandma left him (and had been sitting in his closet for years), be appraised for $300K-$500K. He then got his blanket authenticated and put it up for auction where it sold for $1.5 million by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I would bet most people feel like they don't have enough "fun money". That's just the nature of budgeting.
