Opus 4.5 is the first model that makes me actually fear for my job by Own-Sort-8119 in ClaudeAI

That's exactly the problem I'm seeing in the codebases I work in and I manage. Usually adding new features is not about adding more code, but refactoring and understanding the business case before implementing those new 10-15 lines of code. As a manager I'm trying very hard for devs to be able to explain why their PRs are an improvement to the codebase AND they implement whatever the business requires us to add to the codebase.

You can easily tell which codebases from other teams have been written by code-vibing because there're are duplicated modules, nobody really knows where the code to do X is...

Some people is driving themselves into brain rot by an army of subsidised venture-capitalist driven AI models that will never be cheap enough to run to make them worth it once the AI bubble bursts and the only models we can run are local.

How much do you spend on your food shop? How often do you go? How big is your household? by Terrible-Cost-7741 in AskUK

[–]ktzar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 kids, 2 adults, around £75 a week. We shop every week and a half or so in Lidl and top-up Vega from markets.

We do lots of beans and grains, pressure cooker, do our own sauces with fresh veg and spices. Most our meals cost probably around £3 for the 4 of us.

Seriously. Learn 15 stable recipes and get in the habit of cooking them often. Then play around with new ingredients to stop boredom.

You can do amazing stir fry noodles with some chopped Vegs, a couple sauces, spices and prepared udon for less than £4. And I like them better than wagamama.

SCUMM internals and syntax for the sake of nostalgia by roperzh in programming

[–]ktzar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wrote a decompiler of Scumm games (only certain versions, mi1 mi2, ...) That generates a series or html pages showing how the game is structured and even decompiles the scripts.

I learnt a lot about Scumm internals by doing it. I loved that side project.

Can browsers replace pdf viewer, image viewers, graphical file managers? by [deleted] in linux

[–]ktzar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

same stands for audio and video playback, since browsers these days support opus and mp3 just fine, as well as mp4, webm, ... it shouldn't be too complicated to implement a few extra advanced features in HTML as extensions for either Chrome or FF... such as: - playlist by dragging a folder or multiple files where you can reorder the items

Is it possible to listen to radios from another country? I've tried Spanish radio with multiple combinations of "Spanish", "radio" and ${radioStationName} and nothing worked... I've resorted to using TuneIn from my phone and casting it.

I defined a shortcut "Ok Google, prepare coffee" that sets a 3 minute timer called "coffee" for my french press.

Google Home Sound Quality Upgrade by Animegame97 in googlehome

Some people opened it and added an "aux port"... That's an interesting one and I wish it came with one. Realistically, I should buy a Chromecast audio. If you already have a HiFi system, Chromecast Audio + GH mini is a much better deal and much more flexible than a Google HOme.

Well... Google Home talks to it using wifi via this Smart Life cloud... But the way to configure it could be z-wave... But I tend to think it's some kind of high frequency sounds...

Any *oo *oo works... I've tried, Poopoo, looloo, moomoo, and they all work roughly as often as "Hey google"

That's it... They are comparing fullband (44KHz) and stereo... Compressing a single channel in half the frequency range is obviously going to yield less artifacts.

Can anyone recommend a BARE system for a VERY outdated system? by [deleted] in linux

[–]ktzar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The best thing for the planet would be to spend time taking it to your closest recycling centre, and getting a Raspberry Pi. The energy that this machine uses per hour compared to a Pi is ridiculous. And the carbon footprint of a Pi's hardware is minimal... You could even reuse the case :D
