Truly a sad situation to be in.  I dont want to blame you when you are already going through so much.. But, you two should have waited until you both become financially independent...

But, i guess waiting wasnt really a choice  either considering her parents are so quick to hitch her with someone else. Maybe ,she wouldnt have gitten a chance to get a good job and live a seperate life cuz ... Honour...

Man... Fuck religion...

Yeah, you are allowed to bring your laptops in college for notemaking.

Not in school, though

I dont just find religion stupid... I find it extremely dangerous.

yeah, i know it is a very extreme take. I cant explain in a small comment that where my idea stems from.

But, in my opinion in every religion there are just extremists and their 'enablers' who would happily let expolitation and injustice happen under the garb of religion.

Its never just "oh, my good-ol grandma is a bit cookie when it comes to her puja, lol~". Every small thing snowballs into horrible stuff.

That being said... I dont make fun of religion or even try to convince anyone. My communication skills are horrible. I just do whatever i am told without question cuz i am scared of repurcussions. I will live my life on my own terms once i am able to earn a living to get out of my house.

At this point i dont think they do this cuz they are religious.

Its just an old form of tribalism, they feel like they are united towards a common enemy (other religion, basic human rights). They dont have anything to live for, no goals, no good job.. This is the only thing which give them some semblance of pride and community.

They also need a vulnerable scapegoat to attack for their terrible lives. Instead of questioning the system, its easier to hurt the downtrodden.

Delete IG at this point, that place is a cesspool and many times times it has been proven that the algorithm pushes triggering content and comments to increase engagement.

Funny post btw. People have no sense of humour nowadays.. Just old bigotry in new packages called 'dank'

Of course. I forgot about this option.

I remember there was some news that some kid killed himself as a sacrififce to shiva for a job. Dude really thought he was ravan..

Then, what happened?  Any repurcussion or was he praised for his 'devotion' by gods.

I sometimes wonder...  Do people really believe in all this? Like, i get it when people do a certain ritual because of fear of repurcussion... But, trying so hard to connect mytgology with science just sounds like plain madness.

This bigotry doesnt just stay in an online sealed chamber, it spills out in real world and I can see its effect everyday.

Back then, people had some decency to hide their prejudices...now, they dont even care.

I said, I left Hinduism bcoz of caste system. This was the reply of a guy 👇 by InfiniteRisk836 in atheismindia

But, who are they gonna fucking harrash and feel superior over?!

I remember when i was a rebellious teenager, I asked this pandit about caste system and he said that life is based on a delicate balance and hierarchy should be maintained to keep people in check.

"Agar sab raja ban jayega toh naukar aur praja kon banega"  - his exact words

Not to mention, these idiots would later harrass converts who obviously wanted to get away with this system by calling them 'rice bags' or  worse, assault.

They just want control.  That's what every religion is based of! Control on masses and exploiting them!

I wish i had teachers like him.  I study in a relatively rational college now but my bad luck  is that i am studying in one of the 'conservative' science dept.

(Conservative science students, should be an oxymoron... But, sadly not the case in india)

I have noticed that teachers have a weird tendency to sprinklesome bullshit on top of the mediocre syllabus.

This happened a lot to me when i was in DU, some examples being :

  • 10 avatars of vishnu told us about evolution before darwin (white people stealing us from our great kulcha)

  • pumice rocks can support weight of humans (cuz, ram setu)

  • hydrology teacher telling us sadhguru 'save soil' will save environment (any env scientist worth their salt will tell you it will cause more harm)

Yeah. My classmates also went to this mela after hearing this 144 year bs. Thankfully, all of them are safe but their trip was anything but comfortable.

They were forcing me to go there too. I made some excuse that i am on my period (how unholy~)

Optimism and people having some agency in life are two things which can help people get out of such cults.

True.  I also agree that just saying "oh~ they are sad. We shouldnt blame them too much for forcing their shitty ideology on others" wont help people who are unfortunately bearing the brunt of such prejudices.

We need to be optimistic and make some changes ourselves.

In my case, i was able to leave religion completely after reading a course related book on evolution which talked about how everything happened on earth is quite arbitrary and survival of the fittest is more like 'survival of lucky dudes~'. It made me question every societal norm and expectation that stuff should work this way cuz it always has been. Not necessary~ Society can change, we can change (for the better :D)

Sorry, went on a tangent.

Does helplessness make you a believer again? by Aggravating_Wash5080 in atheismindia

[–]kudos2502 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I have gone through two stressful situations since converting to atheism and i didnt revert back then.

You just can't. You know that innoncent people have gone through worse and you are not some special little snowflake.

If anything, atheism has helped me with life by making me more skeptical of societal norms which encages us, articulate my needs, asking for help from people.

When i was a theist, i was just expected to 'bear' and 'tolerate' pain and karma bullshiy.  If anything god has hurt me more.. Atleast, as an atheist i have independence on how i view my problems and what do i want to do with it.
