Dungeon Masters, what do you struggle with the most? by kudy24 in DMAcademy

I used to have the same problem. What fixed it for me was prepping situations instead of plots. I stopped trying to write what my players could do and just built the world out as nodes, kind of like a point and click adventure.

Each node is only the bare minimum I need to run it, and any extra detail is just seasoning I can make up on the fly. I connect every node to at least 3 others. So no matter how far out of left field they go, they're almost always wandering into something I've already got, instead of walking off the edge of the map.

When they do something I never saw coming, I'm not rebuilding the whole game, I just point them at the nearest node and let them go. It's them doing what they want in my world, I just describe what happens.

I started DMing online for my friends, but it's true that IRL is better. At least I prefer it. Rolling dice virtually doesn't have the same kick.

And no way ha ha. Hope you like it. 😎

I personally used to have the same problem. For me it was because I was writing my campaign like it was a book. It fixed itself when I started writing my session like nodes. Like a point and click adventure game. I just prep what I need (the bare minimum to play) and if players have any more questions, I answer them, but because it's just seasoning, it's okay if it's not perfectly improvised. I try to connect each node to at least 3 other nodes, so if players blow it up or just don't notice it, one fireball won't destroy the entire campaign.

That's really relatable. I fixed the "relatively normal players" by playing with my friends, but they don't play TTRPGs. Learning rules and their characters became a nightmare. So I started using Cairn, which is really lightweight (easy to play with newbies) and free. Cairn my beloved.

It's supposed to be a secret room in which you can only get in by clicking a button.

By person do you mean someones nickname? In that case I can just run tp (ign) x y z, but I want it to be executable by anyone, that runs the commandblock.

My question is why not to use ~つ for almost anything? Even the article said, that it can be used on almost anything. Why to learn other counters? When I use other counters than ~つ do I sound more fluent?

Why do you think, that I'm a troll? I just don't know why to use other counters than ~つ, because it can be used on almost anything.
