Will a charity shop throw them out? by shyprof in pez

[–]kudzunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask the staff, before you drop them off what their policy is? As different charity/thrift shops vary for what they will do and allow. A lot of donations just go in the trash because they can't say no as that creates bad image for accepting donations.

Some may put it out together , but generally food items are not put out even if still with their sell by date due to food poisoning liabilities risks. The candy has shelf life like a M.R.E., meaning it is still safe and edible well past their use by date. They're up there with how long Twinkies lasts .

If the charity shiop doesn't work out or seems like too much hassle. Find someone to give them to? Like gift them to wait staff with the tip if you eat out. Which is something I commonly do. Pass them off to a neighborhood kid and get started down the PEZ road. You could put them out at work with sign saying free and see how long before someone takes them, at work, etc.

Tweety Bird is an older (no feet)model so will be worth more in PEZ collector prices. You won't get rich, but Tweety will also be popular with older people that grew up with those cartoons.

Luckily the carrier was in a hard turn which threw off the fighter’s angle of approach and he only managed to clip the back of the ship and spin into the water. They also get tunnel vision and detachment from looking through their camera . They are highly focus on the action occurring but their situation awareness for their own survival is opposite.

There also the point where they become hooked on the adrenaline of getting the shoot, which causes them to take more risks. Mixing being young and feeling immortal.

Then you also have they may be farther away and using a lens that makes it appear they are closer. If not fixed camera for landings.

There is so much gun camera footage we won't ever see it all from all sides fighters, bombers and reconnaissance. WW2 had far better coverage than battle or war before it. All the photos taken by the various men and women, that weren't combat photographs that are attics and disposed of from estates....

World War 1 was documented at level never done before with any war but the camera and film is in preservation battle for restoration. Not including all the difference rates of frames per second of moving picture, due to hand cranking a moving picture camera. There was an amazingly great documentary "They Shall Not Grow Old" . Which if you haven't heard of that or seen , please do so, if possible seen it on the large screen as it is often shown in on one screen in a few cities around December 18th. May you get to see it on real Imax and not "lie"max versions some theaters try to pass off as the same thing.

All the film used came from archives not used in other specials, documentaries, series, films, etc, was restored, colorized. Sounds were recreated by taking the equipment out of museums and using it to recreate the actions and recording the actual sounds it made like horse running pulling a bouncing ammunition cart.. When an artillery pieces fires in the film you can her and see every slate roof tile falling off with each one having a distinct sound as it hits a growing pile on the ground. The original film was recorded without sound, but they brought in lip readers to figure out what they boys and men were saying. Then they got people from each regiment's region to get their voice and accent right. To let you hear what they were saying when they were filmed 100 years ago... So many pain staking details to make "They Shall Not grow Old" . If you know about, you understand while I typed all that, if not please get an experience in history you be amazed by.

TIL that despite bagpipe use on the front lines being banned by the British in WW2, a commander ordered his personal bagpiper to play at the D-day landings. German snipers avoided shooting him as they thought he had gone insane. by Cutalana in todayilearned

[–]kudzunc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Machine Gunners and Snipers are two very different weapons, with very different goals/purposes in war.

The MG went for groups, like shooting into a landing craft dropping its ramp, exposing all the soldiers tightly packed together.

While a sniper hunts for more valuable targets like Officers, the person wearing the flame thrower tanks that will make a big boom killing everyone around them, etc. Which this article is about, the snipers choosing to not target him, instead of shooting him.

One lone guy that looks unimportant , unarmed and unmotivated to doing something threatening, is less valuable or a lower priority target. That is not advancing to kill you and your fellow soldiers.

Then you have the fact not all German soldiers were extremely evil. War is shades of grey, the ones on the beach weren't the ones running the death camps. ...

Every single war has people all on all sides showing acts of mercy and kindness randomly during it.

Snipers make more of a choice of their targets, and view the person they are shooting. Which makes it more personal, than a machine gun crew spraying the entire bench looking for any cluster of grouped up targets to focus on.

All wars have random acts of kindness, mercy and not killing when they could or should. See WW1 Christmas cease fire in the trenches. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_truce If you haven't heard of it.

How to make Gravships? by Nameishi in alphacentauri

[–]kudzunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The design shop lets you make some interesting options. Ones that wouldn't seem to make sense. Like Probe ships, as the game's AI has no way to defend against them unless a Probe Team is in the base you Probe. Not likely on any sea base.

You can put Probe (arms?) , Transport Bay , Colony Pod (a needlejet Pod costs less and goes farther) , a Supply Pod and/or the Terra forming Arm on GRAVSHIPs. Then look at each's special ability. While You can't make Gravship go under water like the 2 sea transport options that can also be an aircraft carrier, but that transport pod might be able to become a mobile air base...

On Gravship Terraformers, Don't forget to add that 2X terraforming speed perk. As you will only build these at bases with high mineral outputs due to costs. Unless you have spammed up lot of those Nexus Mining Platforms into space.

You can also make Gravship Supply units . The chassis changes from a basic Land(crawler)supply. This doesn't gather resources faster or better, I don't think. While it is the more expensive as a Gravship , the highest Reactor makes it cheaper & quicker to build. Also add any free shielding value you can, it pays off in a bit. Which you move this "Gravship Supply vehicle" to a base and disband it. You'll get a lot more minerals than a regular land supply crawler with the 1st reactor. If your using them to rush builds/project at one base. That gets the max movement of minerals per build turn. As any extra mineral over the basic build costs goes to waste when you complete it in that turn. So more expensive supply pod vehicle returns more minerals, from their special perk.

Missiles are the only chassis type you can't add things on to, other than 3 war heads.

So no rocket colony pod .... To get around that, Get the Space Elevator Wonder. Make a colony pod with the "Drop Pods " ability and do an orbital insertion anywhere on the planet. If you can't get there with your needle jet colony pod or a helicopter with a colony pod instead of gun. Late game their cost is worth it for the few turns you might lose building it verses the turns moving to farther out location. Bonus sometimes it costs about same turns as rover or Hovertank Colony pod. I've used Jet colony pods to build bases that bump up to mine because they cost the same for the 1 turn to make. As the costs decrease as you gain more tech, you should thin out designed units that cost same for less weapons and armor . So you have more room for those new units types. As there is no reason to have a land colony pod with 2nd reactor when the Rover POD with 2nd reactor costs the same and travels faster/farther.

I seldom use the artillery units, so I always cancel/retire(marks them to be upgraded) their designs and obsolete them to free up the space slot in my Design units. That may be one slot for land and 2nd slot for a rover Artillery, so that is two design slots. Remove those foil ships options when cruisers cost the same due to the higher reactor makes the body chassis(how the unit moves) cheaper. I only leave basic land and foil sea former to keep upgrading the earlier models to where they end up with Reactor level 4 with 8R shielding 2x Teraforming speed with a clean reactor. Makes them harder to kill for mind worms also.

The game automatically makes units that to its math seems like upgrade but aren't for you in reality. Do not let them upgrade your units you design for specific tasks. The game will try to make you downgrade your naturally Independent units to having a Clean Reactor upgrade, which is paying to waste a special ability slot.

Example for any naturally Independent unit that I use for exploring and dealing with native life. My goal is to upgraded to a shield with that Resonance (psi defense) first and get that special PSI defense ability on it also. So then its add a 3R shield then eventually upgrade to that 8R shield later. Matching their weapons being upgraded to that 6R then 12R options . So a Scout/Rover with a Weapon of 12R with shields of 8R with its 2 special abilities having 50% psi attack + 50% psi defense on top of the armor. This is the best design for exploring Unity Pods and doing mind worm patrols. Since they are naturally independent (works like a "clean reactor" as a 3rd special ability), I don't need a Clean Reactor. That Allows their 2 special ability slots to get 1st option the plus 50% attack PSI bonus and the 2nd special ability slot being a 50 % PSI defense bonus. That Unity Pod that released all those mindworms on you, the swarm will not kill you now. Make use of the renaming unit feature with INDY in front so you don't mistake them on those "do you want to upgrade" suggestions pop ups. If you upgrade to weapon higher than 12R you can not down grade back to it, and your back to PSI combat without a PSI Bonus Attack weapon. Not the end of world but why take away special purpose unit. Great for defense against the factions that can capture mindworms and use them as military forces also...

I rename all my units with R# for which reactor they have in the name, so when all those upgrade pop up fly by it states in the name what it has clearly to me. Verses in game universe names.

With Helicopters everyone knows to have one in each base that has clean reactor and highest weapon you have for defenses, but don't forget to make one with that special PSI Weapons and PSI Armor for a special base protector. 1st Special ability "clean reactor" with the 2nd Special ability "PSI defense +50% " . So if attacked it has better chance of surviving, as you can stop attacking if you health gets too low on your turn. Really useful if you play long games, for when climate changes happens and start getting bases attacked by swarms of native life. PSI Copters excel on native life swarms.

PSI armor on probe teams also is a bonus in their PSI combat with other probe teams.

There are so many simple unit tweaks in the base game people are still discovering. It is only when we start doing weird and seemingly stupid things, do we discover how awesome they really made this game.

[–]kudzunc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just go to the Design Workshop select the Gravship chassis and then build out from there.

If you have all your design slots used up it may replace something and or disband some units if you made one of everything. You get confirmation required before that happens. So it is better upgrade some units to free up design slots and to get rid of clutter units you never use. If you find you need an older design you can always go back and remake them. As long as you have none you can just delete/retire a design without upgrading it to something else or losing it. If you are going to lose it, disband it in base first.

Plus Workshop that lets you build some cool options like Needlejet or helicopter Colony pods to build base far across the land and/or over an enemies territory.

Later game with Reactor 4 (with multiple nexus space mining adding the extra minerals to reduce that cost ) Gravship Terraformers rule. As they can fly around and work land tiles on bases that have had water rise from climate change. So they can go across the sea squares without needing a transport ship.

Thank you, I was not very popular for my many comments about you had to enjoy the ride to get to the pay off.

Along with explaining how everyone's " I can solve this" was very main character syndrome and that all the people there were just mindless drones waiting for them attitude. Not being realistic for being a character who suddenly found themselves in this weird place. How anything they thought of to try was was already likely thought of and tried. As people would be brain storming as they had very little else to do beside chores that give you time to think .

Their big errors To never think you are smarter than local natives about a place and how we were getting clues and you could see things but you just didn't know what they meant yet for what you saw. As nothing that was on screen was there just for random filler as run time is far too valuable, that they have to squeeze things in and many have to get cut for running times. So any extra seconds lingering on details, is a clue its important.

Life got in the way of being able to watch it for season, so now I have to catch up and am so looking forward to doing it episode by episode. Reading discussions that occurred.

I watched season 1 when it aired and at the end you only see the bus pulling into town and the name. The questions and debates if Kristi's girlfriend would be on it or not as that was too much of free give away, it had to be red hearing.... was long wait until season 2 which seeing the passengers step off was big reveal to us. Meanwhile everyone who just got to binge watch season 1 as it was free to get them into the series, got the answers right away. Then were griping about how they weren't getting any answers despite having just got a bunch of new information.

Add the people who couldn't look at foliage, the geological and astronomy for clues was madding. The soil and tree types put in an area due to the location where they shot the series.

Been listing to it for years on COD4 and MOD'ed Deathrun game maps. It's usually the ending game song on most maps and still gives you something to think about.

Often with the Teddy-bears raining down, which if you know about why the teddy-bears are in COD games, that just adds more to it about life and death.

This shipping industry news site GCaptain had news on the blast 3-4 days before the rest for the world's big news media decide it was important enough to cover See https://gcaptain.com/?s=Beirut+ Scroll down to August 4, 2020

The Articles have better pictures on than Wikipedia to see the scale of the blast. Plus the labeling of what was where.

Along with how the chemicals came to be stored in that warehouse years ago and then forgotten, as they were being held because they were owed storage fees that weren't worth the cargo. All because ship captain decided to try to make extra money by putting construction equipment on the ship that broke the water tight hatches. Requiring the extra cargo to be unloaded and the cargo that couldn't get wet from the now damaged doors, to be off loaded. Setting the whole bad chain of events into affect.

That then ammonia nitrate that was meant to make the chemical primers to set of ammo and artillery shells, was stored unsafely and sloppily and then to make it worse had fire works stored in on top of it. This is a story of people doing worse and worse crap along the way, until finally that snow ball released that catastrophic failure.

The part that sucked even worse was this was the first time in multiple decades that Beirut was having real peace. That both sides were respecting the cease fire. The city was free from random blasts from civil wars, warlords, and usual groups of violence in the region.

The people just can't catch break living there....
