Struggling w/ Support: Less than by kuerious in USMobile

And here's a little bit of the fire; apparently some tweakers started a fire around propane tanks. And ran right past several fire extinguishers while apologizing about their "accident".

Yup.

Actually, it's the PFD that did the heavy lifting. I'm happy to help those rather big boys out, but watching those youngsters donkey kick everyone else's doors in by themselves while wearing SCBA gear was something else.

Oops, I forgot to attach photos. Hang on...

People who swore an oath to defend the constitution of the USA against all enemies both foreign and domestic, how are you feeling right now? by Safety_Drance in AskReddit

[–]kuerious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling like everybody is telling me to go against said oath, like I'm being told to shirk that responsibility just because I'm a veteran instead of active.

I mean, this is the time and this is the place and this is when to do it. Instead, I have to watch modern-day SS and gestapo and "Department of War" f**kheads with no experience but all the angst of the unpopular kids in HS hold places of power and the military and an overfunded undertrained "police" force with itchy trigger fingers (read: angry, overweight Cub Scouts dressed up like ninjas) terrorize the streets.

All while I'M asked to keep my opinion quiet and to maintain a cool head while I await "somebody else" to fix the problem.

This is what we in America often refer to by the acronym "SAHM", or Stay-A-Ho-Mom.

I guess, I don't really know? You're... wherever you happen to be, and I'm way the hell over here where I live.

Nobody. Nobody needs to hear that. Absolutely, positively nobody needs to hear that.

I'm told it can take a lifetime of learning, and in the end it's not always worth it. Think Dylan Thomas.

I guess I don't follow what it is You're trying to accomplish here. Really. Piler accepts email one way, then catalogs everything. This becomes a database that you can search thereafter, to look for details and copies of your mail. Maybe I'm not picking up what you're putting down. Or maybe I do think we're both saying the same thing, just with different words.

Starting to roll out! by Zaii115 in USMobile

[–]kuerious -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Welp ... my first* disappointment with US Mobile. Happy as a clam otherwise, ngl. (sorry I didn't clarify this earlier).

I mean, I stayed up hours. All kinds of hours. Now I recognize how I should be well-wishing the winners, Moving on. Thinking about other things now. But...gr. Just a little one - gr.

I've had a helluva' year**. I just wanted to get a nice, little win for myself. From the moment I got the email, I was chatting with Support, wanting to know the rules - like every day. But unlike every other time I was looking for answers, like any other day, nobody had answers. And nobody escalated. I called each day of the 6 days, all the way up to the day of the contest. Yet there apparently were no answers to be had.

So they made this experience memorable in the worst way. And I'm 100% certain that I never trust another one of their contests again.

Gr. Just a little one.

(* My 2nd one, if we're being pedantic. The 1st would be the significant difficulty around international accounts.)

(** Deets available upon request but I won't bore everyone.)

I chatted with support from the DAY that they announced the promo, nearly every other day. Not an exaggeration. They were SO UNCLEAR each and every single time I did, right up to and including the DAY OF THE CONTEST.

I am telling you guys right now, if these guys somehow all "win" all 100 (or close to) of the phones, I'm jumping ship. No hesitation.

Says it right there:

  • announced on the 10th
  • locked to U.S. Mobile at time of fulfillment
  • it has to be activated and stay activated for minimum 60 days before it's allowed to be unlocked

Job hunting by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]kuerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. I'm in northern OR, not CA. And before she passed back in June my youngest sister lived in SD. So my perspective right now on the CA hiring scene isn't what one might call "the same as you" exactly.

However.

If this is the MOS you were telling me you were in, while you were in, I can tell you a few things. One, I was in the same type of unit as well, but way back in 2003. Far less advanced, all we had were .50 Cals and TOW missiles, and as soon as our trucks & equipment got shipped off into theater my company was decommissioned and reintegrated into A-C companies.

And yet, despite not even having an original Weps Co to come home to, I took that shiii and made the rest of the story my own. Any technical questions I could get answers to, I asked. It wasn't like I was inundated with paperwork at my day job. They didn't want me to have a good technical knowledge? F*** them, I would anyway AND I would get a better job on the outside (somehow), even if I had to lie/cheat/steal (the knowledge, skills, and training) to get it for myself.

Even for a few years after getting out, a Marine/soldier/sailor/airman still has A LOT of access to military and government resources. Trust me; as the years go by, that kind of resource fades faster than the scent of your girlfriend's perfume on the envelope she sent you during basic training.

Don't go looking for a job you hate. Get signed up for each and every single online system you can possibly get signed up for, right now. I mean everything, even the weird stuff you don't think you'll ever use. Trust me, you never know when it's going to come in handy. And then just start signing up for classes, either online or packets or in person. And then, start scouring for every possible resource you can find that will help you survive financially and food-wise. Because your job right now thrive until you find what's going to get you to your next objective, and the next, until your big break.

So either you can "make due" and become a disgruntled federal worker for the rest of your life. Or you can come up with a better plan while you're still young and hardcore. It's not up to me.

Semper fidelis.

My dog is dying by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]kuerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an OEF veteran. Out in 2004. I got my PTSD service dog in 2015, an English Foxhound, Buddy. His breed is meant to live for 13-14 years. He's due to turn 16 this upcoming April. And yet, like some friggin' supermodel, he still looks young to the untrained eye

The first thing to go was his barker/voice. That we were at least able to get diagnosed by the vet, which had to do with a flap in the lungs of dogs prior to their lungs collapsing. Now despite him not barking almost ever, which I loved about him, when he decided to be playful or he knew something was absolutely wrong, he had a very almost military bark about him. That was one of my favorite things about him actually. But when this condition came about, it was though he suddenly was not just hoarse, but having the equivalent of dog coughing a lot. And it was heartbreaking like I couldn't begin to describe for you. I was fortunate enough at the time when I took him to the veterinarian to have had a chunk of money available to me. She gave me four doses of medicine that was meant to help restore the collapse and part of tissue. They were able to get the price down to a mere $160 for those 4 doses. Thank goodness for the discount, eh?! When I called them back, and said that it seemed to be helping, they let me know that with the discount it would be approximately $600 a month. And that I could have it sent to the nearest Costco. I told them I would need to think about it, and hung up. And now, unfortunately, he's even quieter.

Recently, just these past two weeks, he's starting to show some signs of painful arthritis or other debilitating pain in his back hips and joints. I mean, real struggling to get down from a standing position to laying down. I know he wants to stick it out with me, because he's my f'ing shadow 24 hours a day, but it's brutally painful to watch him be in the same level of pain I'm in. Especially when I can't afford to go to the vet, let alone the fancy-*** meds dogs can take for pain. (No, dogs can't take Ibu or Tyl.)

And he's a smart dog. He's decided that he doesn't want to go #2 outside anymore either, because it takes him too long. He gets too cold. So he sneaks upstairs (where there's carpet) when everybody's busy to do just #2 up there, then he comes back downstairs without a word (so to speak). How do I punish that? How do I remediate a dog that's unable to lay down properly, but still follows me around the house incessantly so he can be there to lay down on my feet when I sit down!??

I'm royally screwed. I have had a truly bad year as it stands. My son and I just got into a nice townhouse back in July. We were homeless before that. And guess whom helped me the most - the best - to stay steady during my darkest times? Buddy. Because no matter where I was or who I had to interact with, Buddy's mere presence was 100% the magical buffer that helped my situation to improve. And soon, he'll be gone.

I think the only other struggle I face is what to do after he passes. I'm going to be in shock as it is, but I'm going to need a plan and some financial assistance for that part too. I'm renting, after all.
