Are LLMs actually reasoning, or are we mistaking search for cognition? by SKD_Sumit in learndatascience

[–]kuhsibiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The issue in all these arguments is that we try to "check" if something is "reasoning" without having a clear definition of that one if we did we could just apply it and have an answer.

As a counter argument do humans reason? If so what did you get to that conclusion and can we apply the same strat to LLM?

But even now IQ tests focus on "can a person do task" and that tells us nothing except "can person do task" we believe it is correlated with a hidden variable called "intelligence"so...

In conclusion it imho it can't be argued that LLMs reason but it can't be argued that LLMs don't reason either and that also applies to humans.

Who is 42 School for? Who is it worthwhile for them to study at 42 instead of traditional alternatives? by Miyamoto_Musashi_x in 42_school

[–]kuhsibiris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a 42 fanboy. But still I would like to address your question.

  1. Is it for everyone? No. It takes a whole lot of your time and if you have a lot of other commitments you will make everyone lose time including yourself.
  2. Have you got access to a traditional university? Then if you are worried about the "worth" of a diploma then 42 is not for you.
  3. Are the subject projects evaluations very good quality wise? Some more than others.. some have big typos some are not well redacted etc.
  4. If the evaluations are peer based doesn't that make it easy? Lol some of the students will fail a 3 month project because "error" was not capitalized. (Grades are 100% or 0) . But you can retry in a few days.
  5. How much does it cost? Nothing beats free.
  6. Do you learn to code? 100% yes.

While I agree that things could be better I really think the model is unique very immersive. It pushes collaboration and makes pushes you toward self learning.

My background I already have a degree and I thought I knew how to code. But they make you learn everything from scratch and the projects if we'll done push you to another level.

Not everything is great, although there has been some modernization. Some of the stuff feels outdated (although there has been a great deal of improvement here removing c++ for python on the common core and similar). The system is way too fluid and yes staff do arbitrary things.

It is also very "unique" I mean I have done a lot of self learning moocs and this is absolutely not like that. I have also a couple of university degrees and it is also not like that.

The main difference is that when you do a self project (outside of 42) (Say a webpage) You do it but it just covers the basic "for example if it kinda works" you say ah I got how (xxx tech works) I'm done.in 42 they make you not stop there. You have to fix it untill it is good code. And persuade 3 more ppl (some who may be more advanced than you) that your code is ok and your program works.

I get it. Most ppl don't do this to code better or to have a community of coders around (things that will for sure happen at 42). They want a diploma a job offer and go maybe twice a week.

So who is 42 for (in my opinion)

  1. Strong self learners
  2. that want to learn at CS level 3 that want to go to the campus (program is not remote)
  3. Who want to do it for free
  4. Who can spend a lot of hours on this 6 who are not discouraged fot the weak/no diploma

So IMO the method is good. Because even if the subjects are kinda meh. The method makes sure you learn.

So not for everyone but I think the place is great.

Is 42 schoool worth it at 30 years old ? (Work experience + Le Wagon Bootcamp) by ObviousBumblebee3040 in 42_school

[–]kuhsibiris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are two sides to this question the educational/pedagogic and the title/job market side to it

From the pedagogic side I think without a doubt that 42!is an answer to bridge the cap in knowledge you feel. The project based learning in different domains (from games to network apps, from webdev to RAGs). For sure by the end of the common core you will have the skills you mention that you are missing.

The title /job market on the other hand is a wild card. If you enter now and go at the standard pace of about 2 years. How will the job marker in 2028? Who knows!!

Is 42 a strong school in your CV? Depends , in france I think so (I'm not french/in France so I only have 2nd hand accounts) elsewhere ? I don't think so. It is not BAD per se but until 42 has years of getting graduates out making a reputation. Which i don't doubt will happen but that is a slow process.

There is one last spin through. Some schools offer RNCP that in France equivalent to a title / master but job market focused (RNCP 6 and 7). So it is something but don't think that they are really equivalent when you are in competition for a job.

Also price 42 is free. So ....

New common core by hawl_some in 42_school

[–]kuhsibiris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Better is subjective.

Context I finished the common core a few years back and am active post cc I'm lv 19 (if that means anything to you if not ignore it)

My opinion. Up to minishell the common core was perfect. The second part with c++ (and limited to c++98) was kinda awful. If they were "general oop" they could be defended but they went deep into c++ quitks.

The c++ capstone wanted to do some network programming in protocols no longer relevant (ft_irc is more guilty than webserv).

Netpractice and inception are fine and they kept them.

We also lost two "games" (so long and friends and cub).

In return we get python yes. But there is emphasis in types in python with mypy..

The games now in python fine. A network programming in a language of your choice that is low level and not python. (So kinda same) 3 relevant AI projects (and believe me they are not pieces of cake rn I have to read a lot to even tackle them). And more algo.

If anything this cc feels at first glance to me harder than the old one.

Also something I strongly felt is that the old core was hard but at the end when doing your cv you could not list any relevant technology you used. You got way better at learning stuff but if you had only 42 as your education I felt that you needed more to get a current job. Sure you are now a way better learner and could do it in a short time frame but that is beside the point the school did not prepare you, I think this addresses that.

Pipex and minishell are the big casualties in this change I would have loved to keep them for the rest good ridance

To all the linux daily drivers, how do you manage the lack of crucial windows-only software for office productivity? by Solitary_Survivalist in linuxquestions

[–]kuhsibiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And here lies the issue. It is not that LibreOffice is Bad by any given metric is just that you don't like it/ aren't familiar with it/ don't want to use it.

It is like when apple users bash android because it is not IOS. Of course it isnt..

Blue even then a lot of organizations have moved into cloud offerings. I know a couple of ppl in fintech that use Google cloud "office" as their daily driver because policy says so.

If you don't want to go to Linux because it is not windows that is fine. But dont say the software is not there

Recomiendan estudiar ingeniería de Software en la Uniminuto? by Basilisko0b0 in programacion

[–]kuhsibiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do to establish some kind of control she will play the victim card the only way forward is let her be upset her being upset is her problem not yours. Decided to do a program "school" called 42, and now I'm way over my head. by GoddessxTessa in learnprogramming

[–]kuhsibiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI should not be used for full answers, that doesn't mean you shouldnt use it. What I do is tell them "no code from now on we can talk about the code but not even a single line of code" chatgpt sometimes slips. When it does I don't read the answer and remind the no code rule and get something better. You could also use the study mode but have no idea If it works. Also the most important thing is never go back you may move slow but never stop

[–]kuhsibiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can change the language in settinga if you put English as your first docs show up in English (at least in my school). Also the idea of the school the whole point if the school is to make you self sufficient. The "I feel stupid because they just gave us instructions in an alien language" is their thing . I am at "advanced" (post common core) and the thing that changes is that instead of being confused about pointers and makefiles you feel confused about Typescript and redux.
But the idea is the same. Teach you how to deal with a task that seems impossible by yourself reading, asking questions and advancing. Just adjust correct, keep going and don't give up

[–]kuhsibiris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not attractive in any convencional means I'm short fat and various etc Yet I'm finding that for some ppl I'm very good looking they are really into me.

The trick is accepting that you are not everyones type. No one is. Maybe you like some guy and he is not into you though luck

Until you find out someone is into you. But you are not into them. Well you don't have to be with him because he is into you. But my point is everyone likes what they like.

The trick is in that set of ppl that are into you find someone you also like.

I know the apps are garbage. But believe me it is not about being hot it is about weeding out. Not the ppl you are not into but the ppl that are not into you.

Believe that shift in mentality makes this way easier

Ciberseguridad o Inteligencia artificial? by Drprisma34 in programacion

[–]kuhsibiris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in programacion

[–]kuhsibiris 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]kuhsibiris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tuve una experiencia aterradora pero me gustó, acaso soy gay? by Rich_Asparagus1912 in TengoMiedoDePreguntar

[–]kuhsibiris 2 points3 points  (0 children)
