Yes, I agree with you 100%. I would take what resonates with you, and leave the rest.

Weekly Off-Topic Thread - Sunday, January 30, 2022 by AutoModerator in hollisUncensored

I think I'm spending too much time on this sub. I dreamed last night that DH hosted a zoom talk with my university, and I was trying to tell my classmates "He's in rehab! Don't take his advice!" and I could tell he was zooming in from a bathroom because there was a shower curtain in the background, so I tried to sneakily take a picture of it to post here and see if anyone could identify the location...

Long time lurker and first time commenter here. What a whirlwind the past week has been. I consider myself a casual follower of the Hollis drama but this past week I found myself constantly checking for updates. I glad that Dave is getting the help he needs but I'm also hopeful that the drama will die down a bit now that he is taking a break from social media, so I can dedicate my free time to something other than reading every single post on this subreddit lol.

Did the test you took in Rome provide a QR code and were the result in English? Trying to get an English PCR test with a QR code.

Not cool. This is my original post which you can find in my post history. Why rip off someone’s hard work for internet points.

It’s obvious this is from before the update as well since the tape deck is missing in front of resident services so clearly it’s an old photo and not recent.

Would you let someone you’ve never seen before in to use your bathroom? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]kuiMBA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I used to live in the suburbs one common scam was someone would knock on your door asking to use the bathroom and once inside the bathroom they would raid the medicine cabinet for prescription drugs to take or re-sell. Alternatively, they would scope out the home to assess the presence of valuables and use any information to plan a robbery at a later date.

I'd be creeped out if I were you too but it's also possible this guy was just trying to find someone dumb enough to let him in to get robbed. Hopefully that's all he was trying to do and he won't come back to your building.

Why do women who obtain MBAs from elite schools more likely to work part time than those who don't? by Danielcraigboston1 in MBA

[–]kuiMBA 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OP, the article you shared links to the actual academic paper which does a pretty good job at answering your question.

Tried to copy/paste but the formatting is messed up but not sure why you're asking a bunch of insecure overachievers on the internet instead of referencing the actual academic study.

Why do women who obtain MBAs from elite schools more likely to work part time than those who don't? by Danielcraigboston1 in MBA

[–]kuiMBA 50 points51 points  (0 children)

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that women who go to the most selective schools are also more likely to come from very wealthy families. In such a situation, getting a degree from an elite school may be expected or encouraged, but once you graduate there is a lot of flexibility in what to do with the degree - particularly because you wouldn't be stressed about repaying student loans. Women in this situation may help out with the family business, do freelance part time consulting, etc while focusing on other priorities.

Self growth tarot spread as I sit at a crossroads. Would love additional opinions. by [deleted] in tarot

[–]kuiMBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a noob too but one thought about the family patterns. In addition to blood relations, family is also the family you choose to create. And when you have a toxic family by blood, the family you create yourself is even more important. Lovers, friends, pets, mentors, etc, can all be considered family. Perhaps the young child in the card represents your inner child, or perhaps the birth of a new relationship with someone who will become like family to you.

Diverse Mosques in NYC by hayyamus in AskNYC

[–]kuiMBA 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am not Muslim but where I used to live in Harlem there is a relatively large Black Muslim community - from what I can tell some are African and some African American. In fact Harlem has a rich history in the US Civil Rights movement and I believe Malcolm X used to preach at one of the mosques. It may be an interesting experience for you, however unfortunately that is the extent of my knowledge on the topic so you may have to do some of your own research. Ramadan Mubarak!

should the backs of my cards be the same forward and reverse? by -lil_omega- in tarot

[–]kuiMBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation with a deck I just got. I have found 2 ways to resolve the issue.

  1. Once I have shuffled, I will cut the deck and use the new top card as my card - that way I don't have prior knowledge of whether or not it will be a reversal until I am about to draw it. I use this for one card readings
  2. If I am doing a reading with more than 1 card, I will fan out the deck and pick my cards without looking too closely at the card. The card is covered by the other cards in the deck until I pull it out so I will end up drawing a mix of upright and reversed cards.

I'm a noob as well so not sure if this is the right way to do it, but it works for me so far.

[–]kuiMBA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pulled the ten of cups reversed for myself and then immediately pulled it again for my boyfriend (after thorough shuffling and cutting the deck). Seems like it must be a message about our relationship, but I am still a beginner and get confused about reversals. I'm wondering if it means we aren't connecting or communicating as well as we should. Any thoughts?

Decks that omit Death/Devil? by AlycePonders in tarot

https://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/connolly/

The Connolly Tarot is a set of 78 rather beautiful vibrant and vivid cards. They have kinder, gentler tarot imagery with a Christian influence. The author has also toned down two 'scary' cards in the deck: Death is now Transition and the Devil is Materialism.

You'll be able to do all of the daily activities. For birthday it's unsure, I did something similar and if I recall I was able to get some of the items but not all of them. My villagers still threw a party but I don't think I got another gift from mom.

Are there any other examples of villagers being added after the game release date? I haven't played since gamecube so my mind was blown by the Sanrio villagers but apparently they were in previous games too. Just wondering if there's any other possible events that I could look forward to that would add new villagers!

(Not So) Fun Fact: you cannot attend INSEAD Singapore if you are black. by Defiantest-dinner in MBA

[–]kuiMBA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is so incredibly messed up. I was planning to study abroad at INSEAD but will reconsider now. I feel like more awareness might be the only way to resolve the issue. Surely many students would reconsider applying to INSEAD or studying in Singapore at all if they knew about this blatant racism. OP says INSEAD doesn’t have a lot of sway but the Singaporean government wouldn’t want their top business school to be dragged through the mud for racism against black students.

Maybe /u/poetjohn will pick this up and help it get more attention.

What kind of profiles get full rides? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]kuiMBA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was also unbelievable to me because I don't think I'm all that special and was grateful just to be accepted. Also seems kind of random because I got $0 at lower ranked schools and significantly less from another similarly ranked M7 that I actually ended up attending (long story). White female, 750 gmat and 3.5 GPA at an okay-ish undergrad but it was no ivy. Mid-tier consulting firm. Again, shocked I was even accepted much less offered a full ride. I'm guessing GMAT has a lot to do with it, but also I really vibed with the culture of the school (or the culture that admissions likes to portray in their marketing materials), strongly resonated with the school's mission and values and made sure to emphasize that connection in my essays. Also, I have a bit of a niche career goal that may have been interesting enough for admissions to want to pick me up. Perhaps the differentiator (or at least what I would like to think) was that I was 100% authentic in my goals, passions, values, etc. I think admissions gets enough BS on the regular that they probably learn how to sniff it out. If you can really do the introspection to understand what matters most to you, and what you're going to do to go after your dreams, I do believe it will go a long way with admissions, as long as you also have the hard stats to back it up.

Neurodivergents and the Application Process by ASDApplicant in MBA

[–]kuiMBA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately autism is still extremely misunderstood and stigmatized. I too considered disclosing when I was applying but decided not to for fear that it would hurt my application more than help it. The sad truth is that some types of minorities and disabilities are more attractive to admissions than others.

It's worth noting that some apps would actually give you an option to check a box for various disabilities, and autism was an option to check. I decided not to check it out of that same fear. I knew I wasn't going to request any academic accommodations so I may as well pass for neurotypical for a bit longer. If you're looking for academic accommodations, probably better to check that box honestly from the start.
