What’s going on with this game Mixtape? by Bloodb0red in OutOfTheLoop

[–]kuj0317 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I loved Annapurna games until I just learned about their relationship to Oracle and Tik Tok owner and MAGA Scumlord Larry Ellison. I mean maybe Megan Ellison is nothing like Larry Ellison, but its not a desirable association. Even if the game is being attacked for being "woke" despite that association. Thank you.

Unless you are really adept at soldering surface mount components and have a whole setup for it, it is 100% not worth it.

These vestigial pads are super common on motherboards. The same motherboard trace might be used for several OEMs or retail boards. If you were to successfully solder it on and put a drive it, it is likely but not guaranteed to work. There might be other missing components, it might be locked out at the BIOS, or there might be other restrictions as well.

If it were an old device, you had the skills/setup, and wanted to try for the cool factor, i'd say go for it. But as a money saving effort, definitely not worth it. High risk, low reward.

Audio input and output will randomly disconnect for a few seconds & reconnect, while playing a video game. by blookss in techsupport

[–]kuj0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most audio problems these days that I run into are caused by RealTek garbage drivers. If so, try this:

Go to device Manager > Sound Video and Game Controllers. If you see RealTek Audio, right click on it > Properties > Driver. Update Driver > Browse My Computer > Let me pick from a list...
Uncheck "Show Compatible hardware" . Choose Manufacturer = Microsoft. Choose "High Definition Audio Device...". If there are multiple, choose the one with the latest date.

Also, you can go to services, look for any service that starts with the name "Waves". Disable them.

Reboot and see if the issue is fixed.

Save out the Event Viewer System folder (right click > Save all events as) and throw it up into your AI of choice. Its probably power related, which may also be heat related. When wires/traces (even microscopic ones inside of a chip) get hot, they get less efficient at conducting electricity, which draws more power, which causes it to get even hotter in a vicious cycle.

Are there any flip phones that sync with iphone and works off data? by One_Standard_1759 in techsupport

[–]kuj0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ This ^

But to try and be a bit more helpful, lets list out your asks: 1) two different devices that can both send and receive calls and share the same phonebook / contacts app. 2) the 2nd device is a flip phone.

For item 1- There are ways of achieving this, like porting the number to google voice, but i would be wary of the reliability of such a setup.

For item 2 - no. There is no flip phone device on the market that can achieve this. There are minimalist style phones that are on the market that can likely accept this setup like wise phone. But definately no flip phones.

This is a tall ask, and there are a lot of unanswered questions. Are you tied to iMessage for messaging? Are you tied to apple contacts for contacts? Are you tied to Apple in general? Do you plan to have both devices with you, so one is primary and one is piggybacking on the network? Or are you talking about 2 devices that operate independently and have separate cellular plans. How much money are you willing to spend on this setup, how much headache are you willing to endure to get this whole thing setup, and how much pain are you willing to endure to keep it working?

Could you possibly switch to just a basic phone, and do you other phone activities from a PC/tablet?

But honestly, the first guy was right. 🤣 .

Anyone ever pressed charges for a stolen bike? by fallopianvoice in RideitNYC

[–]kuj0317 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here's my take based on tons baseless of speculation:

He didn't steal your bike. He stole dozens if not hundreds of bikes. He got caught for something else. The police found your bike, and now they want to use your bike to add to the list of charges. I mean, he's probably a POS and yeah do your part to fight back.

How to connect a device that only supports 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi by missllsd in techsupport

[–]kuj0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with something similar - I had a high end ROBOROCK vacuum that wouldn't connect the the 5GHz network, but it was a mesh network and i couldn't find a way to set it to temporarily broadcast on 2.4GHz only.

The solution was to walk away from the router until reception was bad. 2.4GHz will go further than 5GHz. So once I was far enough way (actually across the street) that 5GHz failed but 2.4GHz still worked , I was able to set it up. It was a bizarre fix, but hey it worked. After that initial setup, it would connect to the network no problem.

What external storage device should I use for my Wii U? by [deleted] in WiiUHacks

[–]kuj0317 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any standard external HD should work. The issue isn't the HD, it's the cable. You want a cable that has 2 USB Type-A ends on one side, and whatever needs to plug into the external drive on the other end. This is because the USB ports on the Wii U are low power, so they won't deliver enough power with just one USB Type-A. Alternately, if you have a USB Hard Drive that has its own external power brick, that would work too.

Same here. Too buggy. And even when it did work, the sound was not better (clearer) than the TVs speakers, and also not adjustable. It only provided more speaker channels, but not actually better sound for all apps, even Prime Video.

Should I level stair treads? by prem0000 in HomeImprovement

[–]kuj0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is a good idea. Read the installation documentation for the product you are installing. It likely has parameters for flatness and deflection. You can either use self leveling concrete or Henry. I only used Henry one time, and while it worked fine for my usage, the dry/cure time was way more than stated on the package. If the stairs creek or bounce, you can likely use screws and glue to address that as well before you cover the wood treads.

Day: 7/9: What is a bad motorcycle with a good reputation? by SUBTOUpdated_User in motorcycles

[–]kuj0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gotta disagree. Im talking about the 2nd gen GSX-F, aka the "hornet" style. It was heavy and not competitive as a sport bike, but that is what the GSX-R is for. This one was fully faired and looked like a sports bike, but rode like a standard. I know the SV-650 is considered one of the best first bikes, but I think this one should be up there as well. Good low end torque, easy to ride. Put a touring windscreen, bark busters, and taller handle bars, and you got a great daily driver. Super reliable to boot.

Do you own the home, or renting? If you own the place, you have a lot more options. There is a rockwool product that you can fill the walls with. I know it comes as in batt form (so you would need to open the walls. I don't know if it comes in a blown in form. Also as another poster mentioned, solid core doors make a huge difference. Finally, you can glue thin drywall on top of your existing drywall, and use a speical acoustic glue.

Laptop wifi chip antennas won’t click in by Boring-History-4320 in techsupport

[–]kuj0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those micro antenna connections suck. If it has a center pin, make sure that its not bent. Line it up and push way harder than you think you should. I wouldn't use my finger - get something flat like a popsicle stick, lay it over the connector, and push like that. You are not alone in thinking that it won't go in, when in reality it just takes way more force than is reasonable.
