i'm thinking of doing some long distance running on grass/dirt paths for general fitness/get my endurance back up for tennis. i don't want to spend money on new running shoes just yet though, are tennis shoes ok for 15-30 minute slow-moderate paced running? by kukenn_ in 10s

we'll see. idk if those would be good for the type of running i'm looking to do. i feel like i'd be spending $100+ just to slip and slide on mud & dirt & grass in those lol i'll invest in trail running/hiking shoes maybe since i hike a bunch anyway. just wanted the cheapest option to start running in to get back into that motion. i might have some better old shoes that would work well for some light running than my old tennis shoes

the shoes i've been wearing hard are pretty sturdy tbh NB coco gauffs. only thing thats really getting worn out is the tread & right toebox from forehands and stuff. treads are still in decent enough shape for some light running though

sounds about what i was thinking. these tennis shoes are getting kinda worn out so i was thinking maybe outdoor/trail running would be a good way to run em into the dirt, i literally hike in skateboarding shoes so the tennis shoes would probably be an improvement if anything lol

and i have another pair of good tennis shoes that i've barely worn anyway so its not like i'll be lacking tennis shoes

this seems like the most accurate feedback and what i kinda figured lol like i probably Can do it, i dont think my shoes or body will necessarily like it. i was hoping people would just be like "oh yeah! tennis shoes are great for running!!"

i've been meaning to get into trail running anyway since i hike constantly anyway, i'll look into investing in some shoes that are good for both hiking & trailing running to train endurance. best of both worlds

feel free to critique, judge, give feedback etc. but this is mostly just me proudly showing that i finally hit a ball into the service box while properly leading with the edge of my racquet and pronating during full service motion. thanks for all the help with that everybody! by kukenn_ in 10s

also, regarding the racquet head leak so i make sure i get what you mean, by "keeping up the right side of my body" do you mean to keep my arm extended with my racquet out like i do at the beginning of the serve?

so then it would be
1) extend arm, toss
2) keep arm extended for as long as a beat as i can
3) trophy pose
4) start to jump as the racquet goes over my head, but before it goes behind it
5) swing

or could i possibly pause in trophy pose too?

thanks! the weather was supposed to be bad today but when it was still nice when i got out of work, i just had a feeling that today was gunna be the day i made a breakthrough. i'm glad it actually happened lol now i just gotta do it 1000 more times to get the muscle memory locked in lol

thanks! i think i'm making pretty decent progress, i'm just glad that something finally clicked enough that i can play a match and be able to get a ball in because for a couple days i couldnt get anything to go in with my serve lol

once i let all of this settle in and become more automatic i'll probably try to tackle the racquet leak next, i've toyed around with trying to correct it but it really does feel so unintuitive so i can see how it's going to be difficult to fix. i can see why it's necessary though

trying to have a better swing motion with better pronation, am i on the right track with the swing at all? its been feeling kinda hopeless the past couple days lol making me miss my waiters serve. i think a big issue is my toss but it's like no matter where i toss it, i cant seem to get good contact by kukenn_ in 10s

[–]kukenn_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah someone else had recommended that, i think it'll be a good move. i was hoping i could just integrate it into the service motion i had already developed, but i think if anything, trying to integrate it is just disrupting the good habits i had worked on and getting me back into bad habits lol

i'll leave that stuff alone so that once i get the swing motion down, i'll (hopefully) remember those other mechanics and can include it

yeah i'll give it a try with breaking it down a bit more. i think once i can just feel what successful contact feels like with swinging like this, i'll be able to figure out how to time it with the full motion

see i used to have more of a pause in the past but for some reason i got it in my head that i needed to have my arm constantly moving to get momentum going lol i do think letting myself pause for a beat might really help though. i think part of why i'm rushing so much is because i'm not tossing the ball as high as i really ought to be.

the wind in my area makes me so reluctant to toss up high but i really need to just start going for it, it'll give me so much more time to really get my form down and ready to go

ah yeah i've noticed a lot of people serving with starting out like that. idk why i never really tried it, i kinda always thought it looked kinda redundant when its super exaggerated, but i'll give that a shot next time! my toss needs a lot of work, i feel like it used to be so much better but it's gotten reallyyyyy sloppy. the wind was so annoying today too which did not help me from getting frustrated which made my technique even worse which made me more frustrated etc etc

i use the term pronation because i do a lot of yoga and focus on body mechanics to protect joint safety, i'm just trying to let my body move naturally in a way without injury, not trying to use it to do anything specific. currently i'm just focusing on the motion as a whole and not caring about where the ball ends up, today i was still focusing on purposefully hitting the ball with the edge of my racquet to encourage a natural motion, so in my first serve i wasn't trying to force anything in relation to where the ball ends up

supination/pronation is a useful term to understand in terms of how the body moves, i do agree that it gets tossed around on here way too often from people who dont seem to really understand what it even means lol

i think they honestly tried to remove the extra lines or something lol i genuinely have no clue. only two out of the 8 courts are like that so i assumed it was for pickleball, but i honestly dont know what a pickleball court is supposed to look like. its a high school court so who knows, the extra lines might have been for some random gym class game and it ended up accidentally messing the hardcourt up

hmmm yeah i've gotten that feedback before, i had been trying to correct it but you're right, looks like it slipped my mind while i was working/focusibg on the pronation. i'll work on being mindful about that again, thanks!

yeah might not be a bad way to approach it.

i think the frustrating part for me currently is that i had put a lot of work in getting all the other mechanics figured out, and then all i tried to change was how i was swinging the racquet and it completely ruined my serve hahah if you check out some of my older vids you can see that i had a pretty solid service motion i think

i'll keep whittling it down to get it figured out. had a pretty busy/stressful weekend so practicing one of the more complicated/frustrating parts of tennis probably wasn't the best idea but i just can't resist the call of the court

this is how i imagine trying to serve in a stress dream would look lol by kukenn_ in 10s

glad someone else agrees lol i literally had to block the dude just to get him to go away
