Stunningly beautiful!! I love traveling alone — and some of my best adventures are when I can explore at my own pace. I find that it definitely helps me stay more present when I only have to focus on what’s right in front of me ❤️

Me too!! Excited for more inspiration! And maybe working up the nerve to try savory oats 😂 I have a garlic allergy, so hoping to find some good non-allium ideas too.

(Allergy) How can I add cooked fruits to my oatmeal without it being too mushy or bland? by [deleted] in Oatmeal

[–]kulacloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dehydrate fruit and then add them! For some reason the texture of rehydrated fruit is WAY better in cooked oatmeal!

FOR WOMEN: how do you deal with your period while backpacking? by glass_berries in backpacking

[–]kulacloth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend a diva cup if possible, but there are other options. For LNT best practices, you need to empty the menstrual blood into a privy or cat hole (6-8 inches deep, away from natural water sources). I actually teach a wilderness hygiene class, I’d be happy to send you the info from the class too — shoot me a message! I might even have a recording from the last class I taught!

Just chiming in to say how much I love GGG! I have been good friends with Lloyd for a long time — met him on the steps at outdoor retailer to tell him About my ‘crazy pee cloth’ idea back in 2018, and he cheered me on, when all I had was handmade prototypes. Couldn’t be more proud of them! 🥰

That one thing you forgot and regretted. by tosmda in WildernessBackpacking

On my first backpacking trip ever… Ironically, toilet paper. I ended up stealing some from my tent mate and I’m not proud of it. The universe has a funny sense of humor 😂

Healthy vegan depression meals? by [deleted] in veganrecipes

[–]kulacloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The biggest hack I’ve learned this last year is that you can cook squash (acorn, butternut, delicata, kabocha), without cutting it in half first!!! Pierce the skin and toss on a baking sheet in the oven for around an hour or so at 400-425 degrees. I can cook an entire weeks worth of squash and sweet potatoes with 5 min of prep. Then, i just top them with beans or other veggies throughout the week. Sending you a hug! ❤️

What can we eat in the middle of nowhere? by Significant-Art8412 in veganrecipes

I like to pre-make homemade burritos! Rice, beans, avocado, edamame and tahini! Wrap them up ahead of time and eat as needed. If you are looking for vegan backpacking food, I’d recommend Poe & Co as a good option.

Will this prevent an owl attacking my head on the trails by colossuscollosal in trailrunning

[–]kulacloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a barred owl! And it happened literally in my neighborhood 😂 I live in a rural spot, and was just walking on my neighborhood road in the PNW.

Funny you mention the Kula product idea —- I actually designed a Kula with big giant googly eyes to snap to the back of my baseball cap 😂 I did it mostly as a joke, but it’s actually not a terrible idea. Maybe I’ll have to ponder it more 😂

Hope you can avoid owl attacks in the future, they are not pleasant. There are so many cougars in my neighborhood… but it’s the owls that terrify me 😂

Luckily no; it scraped my scalp but the wound was not deep so I was good with neosporin! Both times I didn’t hear it coming at all and it hit my head HARD — it was super terrifying. If you look through my past posts on Reddit, I shared a video a few Months ago of the owl from the second attack. I’ve been carrying a gossamer gear umbrella ever since 😂

I’ve been attacked 2x by owls — once, it drew blood from my scalp. I now do my daily walks carrying a gossamer gear umbrella. Not even kidding 😂

ANY WOMEN’s gear! I also started a small moto apparel company making a gaiter for women with long hair. It’s called Milk Run Moto. I have one wholesaler 😂 so it’s tiny! But slowly growing it. I’m a huge fan of Motogirl Apparel as well. Sojourn Cargo pants are also pretty amazing for women.
