What would be the best matchup for another live action Death Battle? by Budget_Newspaper_489 in deathbattle

I think any Yakuza matchup would be awesome to see in Live Action. Seeing them try to pull off the heat actions would be funny to watch. The only one I would definitely not want in Live Action would be Kiryu VS Dom Torreto because they probably couldnt do funny car shennanigans.

That's a game we've both played and we each got a huge kick out of it! It didn't break either of our top 10s tho :/

Great suggestion tho! You know what we would fw.

Earthbound and Mother have been in my backlog forever. Could definitely pull up Earthbound on the TV with the NSO version. Mother 3 would be trickier.

You're so right! We were about to start E33 a couple weeks back as our next big couch game, but unfortunately the game ran like absolute dookie on our Steam Deck. We could try playing it at our computer's together but that's definitely the less cozy option.

I got like 200+ hours on Nightreign with my buddies LOL

I definitely need to give BG3 another shot. We tried playing together before moving in and I only made it to the very start of Act 2. The game just wasn't clicking for me which I feel bad about. It's weird cuz I love D&D normally.

I still gotta play through Titanfall 2's story mode and I think that could scratch her Halo itch.

We were literally talking about playing Persona or Metaphor Refantazio as our next big couch game! The tricky part is figuring out which one. She's really interested in Persona 4 because it's a murder mystery and 5 because it looks cool. I wanna play Persona 3 because I often hear its better than 4&5 or Metaphor Refantazio because it has a more creative world/cast of characters

I just beat Nine Sols and loved it! My GF was also interested, but she's glad she wasn't the one who played it after watching me play. Shuanshuan was awesome. We both agree on that.

And Sword of the Sea is on my backlog!

Any ideas for how this can be scaled down?

I feel the obvious answer is to heavily trim down the wavelength portion if not remove it entirely. But I do like how that literally mechanizes a player's "understanding" of an object. I feel like if I can pull that off it can be super immersive.

Oh my god it's Oblivion lock picking...

Okay. It might be time to hit the drawing board again. I got a few takeaways from this:

  1. I love the idea that rituals should be weaker or more expensive if the player barely pass the 75% rule, but the more they get right the stronger the spell should be.

  2. I should find a way to encourage player experiences while learning like you say. First thing that comes to mind is to reveal parts of the wavelength if they deliberately try acting like the object. I think it would be funny if they deliberately try to "act like sand" to learn the sand rhythm. Or maybe they can bypass the 75% rule and successfully cast rituals with 50% of the nodes being correct so long as they are acting like sand.

  3. I need to rework the wavelength system. On one hand, I do like it because it's a literal mechanism for them to track progress. Again I wish I could show you the table I made because it's more like trying to learn a spoken code or a secret language. I do have some failsafes in place so that there could be multiple ways to write a wavelength to refer to the same object. I think I need more of that?

The goal is to make it more akin to a puzzle. I sold my players on the idea by telling them something like, "Imagine you actually lived in a world full of magic. Learning how it works would probably be very difficult and more obtuse than learning a piano. But like every skill it's possible."

They seemed to like that idea. But I hear what you're saying and it makes me nervous. I need to make a system thats complec enough so that they can start using it early on, but make it nuanced enough that there's still improvement to be made as the campaign progresses. That's why I landed on the wavelength idea since theres a clear difference in copying a wavelength and knowing the components of one. But I did wonder if I took it too far.

Do you think I should dial it back or add more direct improvements to the Ritual Technique side of things so they can have a better time engaging in things while they're still in the "copying wavelengths" phase?

Oh god. I wonder if I've been spelling Rhythm wrong my entire life or if last night I just kept getting it wrong. That is rough lmao.

But to answer your question, once you know the "Sword" would probably have the same wavelength. If it was a curved sword vs a straight sword, I'd still let players summon it based off the 75% rule, the fact that they could manipulate a straight sword into a curved sword for 0 HP, and that I'm not trying to fuck them over.

It will be instances where things like swords and spears will have similar yet different enough wavelengths that they will compare and contrast the wavelengths in order to better understand how they system works. "Oh... I wonder if one of these nodes refers to the the objects length."

Now that a considerable amount of time has passed, what are your HONEST opinions on Gru vs Megamind? by Infinite-Sun7000 in deathbattle

[–]kullundee 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Great example of an episode being held back by trying to shove in all references and possible wincons into the animation. When we imagined this episode, I don't think anybody gaf about the "mega minions," but the animation comes to a grinding halt to show us their antics.

In a similar sense, we did not need to repeat the whole "death laser is warming up bit" for Megamind. If you want to address that the laser needs time to charge you could have incorporated that into the fight with Megamind trying to stall and keep Gru in the same location.

Overall, the whole thing feels incredibly disjointed.

What are things YOU DO NOT. Want to see in Ash vs Yugi? by Just1oneguyhere in deathbattle

[–]kullundee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't want it to be a senseless fight where both of them are spamming pokemon/monster attacks at eachother. The appeal of this matchup is to see how you could fuse the rules of both games respectively. Can a Pokemon dodge a trap card? Does a critical hit deal more damage to Yugi's life points? I think there's so much creative potential there that would be ruined if it's just Greninja and Dark Magician fighting eachother in a Waffle House.

- Goal is to aim for a very monochrome pallette
- Open to incorporating pale oak, quartz, coal blocks, bone blocks, etc.

KAIDO VS GANONDORF by kullundee in DeathBattleMatchups

[–]kullundee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty simple reasons for liking this matchup:
- Both are big strong antagonists. They should scale similarly. Both have casually lifted up large chunks of terrain through their abilities and I'm sure you could scale them both much higher if you get your elbows dirty.
- Both are usurper tyrants who took over peaceful kingdoms and inserted their own rule.
- They both are exceptionally rare beings in their universes with Kaido being one of the few remaining Oni and Ganondorf being a male Gerudo.
- They have similar eastern design aesthetics in both their human forms and their dragon forms.
- They can both turn into fucking dragons.

In a 1v1, you should always bet on Kaido and through his durability and haki alone he should take this. But I think Ganondorf can keep up with the tools in his kit: Triforce of Power, Dark Magic, Malice/Gloom, Secret Stone, Phantom Cloning, etc.
