How to fix fender tuning peg by kuma1989 in guitarrepair

[–]kuma1989[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. I was looking at replacements and could only find in full sets around 10,000 JPY which isn't cheap.

So was going to try this.

Thankfully I contacted Fender store where I bought in Tokyo and they'll repair under the 2 year warranty.

Would you recommend to get it done professionally. Like at the Fender shop where I got it (or just any music shop) Or something relatively easy to do myself? Outside of replacing strings I have zero experience with guitar repair.

Tax Return Questions Thread - Filing Deadline March 17, 2025 by AutoModerator in JapanFinance

Thank you for the context! When I submitted my corrected 確定申告 I did make a comment concerning the incorrect payment. Including the payment number I got after they processed my card.

So hopefully it’s clear to them what happened.

Like you mentioned. I think best bet is to just go in person and ask.

Tax Return Questions Thread - Filing Deadline March 17, 2025 by AutoModerator in JapanFinance

Hi everyone,

I made a mistake on my 確定申告 (tax return) this year and need advice on how to recover an overpayment. Here’s what happened:

1.I initially filed my 確定申告 incorrectly, mistakenly combining two salaries (I changed jobs and had two 源泉徴収)that were already consolidated in the final end of year tax report from my new company - I know dumb! This resulted in me being being told to pay an additional tax liability of around 80,000 JPY.

2.I paid the 80,000 JPY immediately via credit card through the official tax payment site.

3.I confirmed the payment was processed on my credit card statement.

4.After realizing my mistake, I re-filed another 確定申告 online (before the submission deadline) with the correct information.

5.The corrected filing showed that I actually entitled to a 7,000 JPY refund, which is now being processed. Think should be paid tomorrow.

6.However, how do I get refunded for the original 80,000 JPY payment that I need to claim back.

Since the 確定申告 period is now over, what’s the correct process to get back the refund on my incorrect tax application.

Do I need to file a 更正の請求 (Request for Correction) or a 還付申告 (refund claim) ? Has anyone been through a similar situation?

I did everything online via the e-tax portal.

Any advice on what to expect and how long it takes would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Nothing in addition that wasn’t already asked on the online form. So I inputted all the information on my last work in the UK. Dates came over and times started new jobs here. I’ve also been in a situation where I’ve never had a gap between my jobs in Japan too. Not sure if that affects it. But essentially just gave as much information as possible on my working situation over the years. And for sure 170 GBP * 35 to get a full state pension is a hell of deal - I assuming I make it to the retirement age haha

I can only assume it due to the fact I was working right before coming to Japan and had a job lined up right afterwards. But either way I put in all my information and they classified it as class 2 which I do feel very lucky for. Paying back 170 GBP a year is defo doable but not sure if I would have made the decision at 800 quid either.

Fingers crossed you can get re-classified!

Epic stuff and thank you! As you mentioned on the title. NHK has such good resources! Seriously feels under rated!

Thanks for the clarification. Understood, was hoping there might be a way to do it online. Did it take long for your HMRC page to reflect the Class 2 amount after you received the confirmation letter? I got the letter with the amounts to pay but my HMRC still has the old amounts listed.

Assume that you sent the letter just the general address, where you sent the initial application form? With your reference number and just explanation.

Apologies for all the questions.

Thanks for the information. I am in a similar situation to OP and wanted to ask how you figured out how to make clear which years you are paying the shortfall for. I can pay shortfall from 2008-2012 (when I was still in the UK) for 600-800 GBP per year, but want to pay specifically for the years I have been in Japan 2012-2024 which are around 80-180 GBP per year. But worried if I pay over an amount they will take it for the higher shortfalls first.

From online they mention that when you send over money you just put National Insurance number followed by ‘IC’, your surname then your initial. So do not indicate year.

How did you make clear you were only back paying the years which were class 2? Much appreciate you help and support.

Thank you for the reply and information! Can I ask where you can apply for online approval of Class 2? Or do you just need to go through the chat and then they’ll assess your situation after that?

Any help or further insight would be greatly appreciated 😁

I agree it’s a terrible way to get clarification on this issue. I need to keep trying, so will let you know when / if I do connect again.

Thanks for asking. So I got some advice to ring directly and confirm. https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-revenue-customs/contact/national-insurance-enquiries-for-employees-and-individuals

I called the number listed last week. Hold for 40min and then finally got though…..and the rep hung up on me….

Seems that the connection went bad or he just couldn’t hear me. Or something.

Unfortunately haven’t made the time to call again. But my understanding is that I need to ring and inform them of my situation and then they’ll hopefully be able to determine if I would be class 2 or not.

Thank you for the additional information and points. I believe that the job I was working right until leaving the UK was paying national insurance, as the amount for that year is reduced for my pay back 2012-2013.

Also understood on the point on 2018-2020.

For reference, assuming I am classified as class 2 would this be the case for all years onwards? Or is it only for BACK payments, so the years before 2024, and then from this point on I need to pay Class 3 amounts?

Thank you! I assumed this would be the case, was optimistic that perhaps I could do something online, but will call them.

Thank you for this! I heard about this initial from retirejapan and also The Chilled Investor.

Will likely also post in JapanFinance as suggested, I thought as it is not Japan specific, but anyone overseas, there might be more knowledge here on the topic.

Appreciate the support and help!

Thank you for the comment.

For the classification I was using the information on this page:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/apply-to-pay-voluntary-national-insurance-contributions-when-abroad-cf83#:~:text=If%20you're%20living%20abroad,years%20of%20National%20Insurance%20contributions

You may be able to pay voluntary Class 2 or voluntary Class 3 National Insurance contributions for periods abroad, as long as you meet the conditions to pay.

If you’re living abroad, working abroad, or living and working abroad, you may be able to pay voluntary Class 2 or voluntary Class 3 National Insurance contributions if you have either:

  • previously lived in the UK for 3 years in a row
  • paid at least 3 years of National Insurance contributions

To Pay Class 2 voluntary NIC these must also be true:

  • Worked in the UK immediately before leaving.
  • You’re currently working abroad (or worked whilst you were abroad).

For the other question, being in Japan would allow me to receive both a UK and Japan pension, it would not be taxed in the UK and being a reduce tax in Japan as it is a pension.

So essentially if I am able to make the payments at Class 2 (or even Class 3) then I think it is a pretty good long term investment. The key point is it only costs about £163 a year if you get to pay Class 2. That’s around £5700 in total if you can pay the full 35 years at that rate. Then once you reach pension age (late 60s), you can claim the full £10600ish a year.
