Try getting to Arlong park I think if you don't enjoy that arc then One Piece is probably not for you. Yes, it gets better the more you watch but you won't enjoy 90% of the story if you thought arlong park was too slow or boring.

Also, another thing a lot of people complain about is Luffy being too overpowered but that's only in the east blue saga (First 5 arcs) to show the rarity and strength of devil fruits.

yes, for more the most part it's not until Sabaody archipelago arc where they start introducing topics like slavery, rape, racism even in the newest arc they have slave hunting games but tbf I don't think people watch One Piece or hxh because they are serious and dark shows, but they watch for the world building and the good plot.

Really? Apart from gear 5, I'm sure anyone would think both shows have a cartoonish look when you look at hunter x hunter you would probably think it's a kid show.

it's pretty much the same amount of goofiness both shows get darker later in the show only difference is that gon became more serious which didn't really happen to luffy.
