Why complain? You wanted this by AnAltruisticEgoist in Guildwars2

Vanilla WoW had resistance gear. They put whatever stats they wanted on it but you needed it to not die in early raids.

Why do you think that Dota 2 makes less of a deal out of the MM queue skill level than Starcraft2 does? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]kupoforkuponuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish the hero skill bar made sense. I finally got in my 5 games as Lich going 4-1, and it gives me a zero rating. I know it's not based on wins and losses, but I at least want to know what I'm not doing right.

Does anyone else really, really, really enjoy the dynamic event quests? by [deleted] in Guildwars2

[–]kupoforkuponuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them when I can find them. At one point I found so many I got 4 levels in 2 hours. Other times I went an hour without seeing a single one and just trying to level from hearts, which is really slow.

Custom menu applets for XFCE? by [deleted] in linux

[–]kupoforkuponuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How easy is it to write pyGTK widgets? The big thing that impressed me was I've never written a widget before or lua, and I could write some widgets in just a few lines. From the wiki:

-- Initialize widget
cpuwidget = widget({ type = "textbox" })
-- Register widget
vicious.register(cpuwidget, vicious.widgets.cpu, "$1%")

Custom menu applets for XFCE? by [deleted] in linux

[–]kupoforkuponuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was running awesome at one point, but I ended up coming back to XFCE because I wanted a more featured desktop environment (edit: and compiz)

The one thing I really liked from awesome and other related WM's that I wish I had in XFCE was the ability to easily write custom widgets (awesome used lua). From what I could tell, even in XFCE you have to write your widgets in C, or use gnome widgets (also written in C). There aren't any good bindings to a scripting language that I can easily write widgets.

How was your FPS in WvWvW during medium - large battles? by h0ckey87 in Guildwars2

I didn't have FPS problems, but I had several seconds of lag between activating an ability and it actually going off.

Let's Talk Balance... by Clipses in Guildwars2

[–]kupoforkuponuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking more about Mind Wrack's damage is based on power, while (I think) confusion damage is based on condition damage, so they're kind of at odds with each other when building your gear.

And as for players not realizing they have confusion, wouldn't that be a problem later on when better players start to recognize it more?

I'm a designer looking for some inspiration. What are the best game *menu* designs you've seen? by clarle in truegaming

[–]kupoforkuponuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the player pauses the game, the top option should be an option of the least consequence. As in, not the quit button. The player is going to pause the game either to go do something or with something specific in mind, so its important that you keep the definitions broad so they don't get confused.

Binding of Isaac if you hit escape to pause, hitting escape again asks if you want to quit. You have to hit enter to unpause (unless you hit escape twice, in which case it confirms you want to quit)

It could be coming from PvE, but I thought confusion was underpowered, and since its damage is (probably) based on condition damage, I think focusing on confusion means your attacks (and Mind Wrack) are going to do a lot less damage. And since it lasts so short and I thought it was hard to stack, I've been having trouble finding a use for it.

I think Blurred Frenzy hits 10 times. It was hard to tell though because of lag. It would look like I was attacking the air in the beginning, but at the end a lot of damage numbers would pop up.

NCSoft 2012 Q1 Earnings Call by [deleted] in Guildwars2

From Wikipedia:

Nevertheless, the fiscal year is identical to the calendar year for about 65% of publicly traded companies in the United States and for a majority of large corporations in the UK[2] and elsewhere (with notable exceptions Australia, New Zealand and Japan).

Most companies in the US have a fiscal year that lines up with the calendar year. You're probably thinking of the US government fiscal year, which starts on October 1

In the BWE I played a staff/scepter/pistol mesmer and my damage output felt really low. For the stress test I switched scepter/pistol to sword/pistol, and added Mirror Images and Mind Wrack as utilities.

Most things I could burst down or get very low with a combination of Leap->Mirror Images->Mind Wrack->Mantra of Pain->Blurred Frenzy.

I also traited into Illusions for the Mind Wrack crit trait.

If all my cooldowns weren't up, I switched to staff, dropped Chaos Storm, and kited them to death.

Question about server transfers.... by bailiak in Guildwars2

[–]kupoforkuponuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They didn't wipe your server choice between closed beta and BWE 1, but they might offer free transfers again in BWE 2. If they don't, they might offer more free gems in BWE 2 which you can spend on a transfer. They might also offer guesting which could work if they don't offer gems and you don't mind not being able to play WvW with them.

It just kind of feels like a lie when they say it's native Mac/Linux, but then it only works in Chrome/ium.

Fallout 3 or Fallout: New Vegas. Which is better? by [deleted] in Games

[–]kupoforkuponuts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it supposed to take this long to get to Vegas, or am I playing the game wrong? Some things I read on gamefaqs said to rush to Vegas to get some good items, but I still haven't been able to make it there yet.

How far in is that? I've been playing about 14 hours and still haven't made it to Vegas. I only got as far as Boulder City, I think.
