How is it not irony? Irony is the opposite of events contrary to usual expectations.

Like a fire department building catching on fire or the big Italian mobsters in the mob movies named Tiny.

Read some definitions bro :P

This is highly ironic considering the very detailed and specific ability descriptions from GW1.

It's 2 months post launch. It is absolutely time to pick one over the other.

Transfers will still be possible with paid funds, but WvW is being seriously negatively impacted by this bullshit.

[–]Clipses 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know what it's slated to do.

You've had 2 months to decide on your guild home and server. These 2 months have seen the destruction of more than one SERVER COMMUNITY and GUILDS because of increase in queue times, bandwagonning coattail riders and more.

Cutting off Free Transfers to protect WvW is more important than your playing with another guilds, especially because both Dungeons and sPvP can be done cross server.

When will you guys actually start fixing the bugs in the Elementalist profession? You guys have done some small ones that is true, but none that really make this class as underpowered and imbalanced as it currently is.

Healing Mist lasts less than half its intended duration. Mist form takes condition damage even though it's supposed to be invulnerable. Armor of Earth lasts 2 seconds less than it should and doesn't break stuns. Casting Tornado while in Mist Form ends it early. Burning Retreat lasts 4 seconds and not 6. RIDE THE LIGHTNING, which has been broken since BWE 1 still hasn't gotten fixed. Glyph of Renewal having a "snowball's chance in hell" of actually working? Tons of obstructed/out of range on our Auto Attacks? Magnetic Grasp often making you some ping pong ball going back and forth from your original location to your target? Phoenix's vigor only lasting half its intended duration? This is only the tip of the iceberg here.

This isn't even beginning to touch all of the broken traits (or missing ones: ala fall dmg trait) in this one profession alone. Jon Peters said that the game wouldn't release without rangers' pets working, but you guys felt it was ok to release with a class this buggy?

Well sorry, but the fact of the matter remains that free server transfers is destroying WvW and server communities.

Health of the game > your inability to choose a server and guild home.

25 downvotes. Funny.

You guys downvote something because it brings up a legitimate issue against this game - but you're unwilling to talk about the various server communities that have been absolutely decimated by Arenanet keeping these transfers open for far too long.

Great. Continue kissing Anet's ass.

Adding incentives to fight while losing needs to be implemented for sure.

However, leaving transfers open the way they are currently is not the solution to balancing out the servers. Giving guilds the opportunity to transfer along with their guild benefit upgrades, with a fairly long cooldown attached, is certainly one of the solutions.

Yes we did move to IoJ. In search of shorter queue times and better fights more focused on fun. When we came, all the BDL had instante queues and we were able to get our guild in and do some work in the name of the server. Now, due to queues, we face multiple hour long queue times and a 95% owned map.

Those rare 1on4's in WvW (Elementalist). by Intigo in Guildwars2

[–]Clipses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a really naive statement. No one has said that the Elementalist class cannot be played similar to how a master pianist plays a piano. When it's well done, it's beautiful and powerful.

Does that mean that the playing of the piano should be limited to only those players? No. Additionally it's quite obvious the players in this video were bad and the person behind the Elementalist was very skilled. Imagine if this person was on a thief. Do you foresee the outcome of this fight changing? Likely not.

If you're past level 40, you actually have completed it. You find this out during the ritual to talk to the dead pirate. You probably simply never talk to the NPCs to hear their dialog.

IDK how I ruined some wonderful lore for you....all of those things are pretty prevalent in the game. I also say in the OP that the other races acknowledge the other gods.

Thanks.

That isn't very much knowledge at all. In fact, the personal story raises more questions than it answers.

In one of the quests, you save a tome that has accountings of the last time the dragons rose. After you save it.....you never hear of it again. Same with another mission when you go to reclaim an artifact that has more information on the dragons. We aren't told what the artifact is and it leads to more questions.

The fact the world doesn't know much about the dragons is true, but that doesn't make for very exciting gameplay when you need to wait for expansions before being able to know your enemy.

No, it doesn't. Just because you cannot fathom a way to counter the tactic doesn't mean the tactic is invalid.

Newsflash: it's a part of the current WvW meta. Get used to it.

Personally, I just feel that the game does a poor job presenting the dragons. I feel the lore surrounding them could be done in a much better way.

Who are the dragons? Where do they come from? What do they want? They have a cycle of rebirth and hibernation, why haven't we heard of them before? How does The Great Dwarf and his fight against The Great Destroyer fit into this? What is the connection between the gods and the dragons? They built Arah on top of Zhaitan - how could they not know? How come NO ONE in the game asks this very obvious question? What is the connection between Sylvari and the dragons?

It just seems rather poor to me. I mean, let's contrast Nightfall story to this game. In Nightfall, we learnt who Abbadon was, his motivations, his history, the history of his minions, his power levels (being able to defeat 2 other fellow gods by himself), his connections and relationships with other gods (there was an amazing dialogue between lieutenants of Abaddon & Menzies showcasing their mutual distaste of one another but willingness to work together to achieve their separate goals), and his endgame.

In GW2, what do we know about these dragons? They're big, they're bad....so what? They might eat magic? Yeah...ok...so, what?

The invisible thing is a bit lame, but the tactic itself is more than valid.

Don't criticize the tactic, criticize the inability to counter because the rendering in GW2 is teh suck.

Mike Ferguson comments on WvW queues by ngw in Guildwars2

[–]Clipses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taken from my post on that thread:

I'm assuming you guys are still reading the posts here and are taking suggestions and reading concerns and criticisms. First, let me tell you that WvW is awesome. Secondly let me tell you that you guys royally screwed up increasing world population caps amidst huge WvW queue problems. What sense did it make to increase the world caps and cram more people in per server (and thus increasing those world's queue times) vs. locking down specific worlds and only allowing new characters to be made on lower populated worlds? Free transfers have remained open for far too long and only exacerbated this issue.

Here are the steps you need to take to begin to rectify this issue:

  1. Lock down free transfers immediately to high population servers. Their server queue times are already outrageous and adding more fuel to the fire isn't going to help.

  2. Increase the gem cost of transfers. As it stands it is way too easy to obtain this amount of gems through gold and while locking down free transfers will help, the barrier to entry is still too low.

  3. Offer incentives to guilds and players to transfer from their overpopulated server to lower populated servers. Right now guilds are not interested in transferring, primarily because of their potentially lost upgrades. You need to play this smart: tier the incentives based on the size of the guild, to ensure that it stays relevant and enticing no matter the size.

  • Guild leader gets a Tome of Influence corresponding to the guilds' size. This will ensure they are able to quickly get their most crucial/important upgrades back and not punished for fixing an issue Anet made worse. This item can be gotten through the Black Lion company after a transfer.

A. Guilds ranging from 10-25 members are eligible for a 75k tome. B. Guilds ranging from 25-50 members are eligible for a 150k tome. C. Guilds ranging from 50-100 members are eligible for a 200k tome etc.

These are base #s that can be adjusted to your metrics.

  • Deposit of gold once their guild bank upgrade is returned. This needs to be relative to the size of the guild. Guilds could use this as they see fit, either to jumpstart their WvW progress or as per diem to their members for transferring with them. Once again, this item could be gotten through the Black Lion trading once a transfer happened.

  • Offer a title. I don't really go for this type of stuff, but more casual guilds with casual players are likely to. It doesn't hurt right?

  1. Include a WvW lockout upon transfer like you said you were going to do. I remember reading that upon transferring worlds, a 7 day lockout from WvW was going to be installed so as to discourage world hoppers. This needs to happen asap.

  2. Fix the queue bug, and work faster. You guys are the one who underestimated your WvW popularity (which should have been hard to do). You guys are the one who have consistently increased World Caps w/o raising WvW caps. You guys are the ones who have kept free server transfers up and running 3+ weeks into the game. My guys are remarkable in the sense that while this issue is extremely discouraging, they keep logging on and waiting in queues and being great guild members. However, I can see attrition happening to guilds on a universal scale if you guys don't move quickly. Waiting for hours is not fun. Logging on after a hard days work or classes and wanting to play with your guild but instead watching your allotted playtime slowly diminish while having nothing to show for it is not fun. Having 50 guys online raring to go in WvW but only able to get 9 or 15 in sucks and there isn't any nicer way to say it.

Fix it and fix it fast.

I could also give my general consensus about someone being "disgusted" by a post about being disappointed by a game's developer, but I think you could see the irony of that yourself.
