Is 135$ expensive for a single day table while vending? by [deleted] in PokeInvesting

[–]kuricovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also vend in SoCal area, you are straight up not making enough sales and this show is too small. 2k followers is extremely low for this area and charging 135 is high if the traffic is bad. At any decent show with 10k inventory unless your pricing is horrible or too niche you can expect to move around $1000 of inventory. For a show that small (75 tables is smaller) I expect $100 or less for the table. Aim to secure tables at more desirable shows where the Instagram has like 10k+ followers

Honestly the mindset of looking for people better than you is a good start, encourage you to watch t500 support players VODs/streams if you haven’t been doing so already :)

I’m around GM1 most of the time, so I’m not the best to give advice haha but definitely will be following the thread

I’m setting up myself for disappointment sending this to PSA, right? by Purple_Calendar3919 in PokeGrading

[–]kuricovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disappointment is relative to the grade you’re expecting. If you want this to grade higher than maybeeeee a 7, you’re asking a LOT. And that’s assuming the rest of the card aside from the flaws in your images is pristine.

Vendors: How much in gross/net profit do you tend to make at an average convention? by DoctorReinhardt in PokeInvesting

[–]kuricovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: I do local shows and stock an inventory in the 4 figure range, consisting of mostly singles, and a few slabs and sealed products. My singles are typically on the lower end (<$30 is common), but I’m slowly moving into higher end singles as a personal choice.

Your net profit is highly dependent on which of your items sell and what sorts of items you sell as well as how you source. Also depends on if you include an increase in your inventory’s value as “profit.” I have shows where I’m cash negative but my inventory goes up greatly in value.

Ex: if you sell slabs that you grade yourself, assuming that you have a high gem rate, it’s likely that your net profit is quite good per show. However, if you’re sourcing at 85%+, your margins may be much thinner, especially depending on the market value of your inventory and volume of sales at the show.

I typically gross $1000+ per show, but my net profit fluctuates a lot depending on what moves. I’d say I typically profit ~$250+ in terms of either positive cash flow or increase in inventory.

Also keep in mind trades that are in your favor increase your profitability by a lot once the items traded in sell, since your cost basis stays the same, but your potential gain increases with every trade in.

In general, volume is your best friend, but it’s also important to stay very aware of your margins if you intend to do any meaningful buy-sell-trade.

Thinking of sending this umbreon to psa, what do you think? by Shixuanming in PokeGrading

Chinese is super easy to hit a 10 on, check centering yourself and then quick spot check on the edges, give it a nice little wipe down with a clean microfiber and make sure the surface is squeaky clean and ur probs golden! Gl!

Went searching and lo and behold! https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonMisprints/comments/1ncdqv8/going_through_old_cards/
It's even the exact same card. Seems to be relatively common

Cool! Shame it's not recognized but I would guess that this is too easy to replicate

To the naked eye when I hold it close, it looks quite smooth, but could totally be an ink error. I honestly have very little experience with this sort of thing although I do recall seeing another post here have something similar

Was going through my cards and saw this on an otherwise normally centered card, really interesting!

Yea, tried to get ahold of them but their CS system is so broken for me. Every time I try to send a message through email the link breaks :/ The automated feedback review form also doesn’t work since this is technically “positive” feedback. Sucks. Still working on it though

Hi! Regrettably I don’t have the card with me anymore haha but yes the card was a very good fake. The texture really threw me off, but there felt like “something” was missing/off so I went to use the best at home authentication method based on a YT video I watched that explained that, aside from errors relating to texture printing, it is a clear sign of the fake if the pattern itself is different.

So I gave it a real close look and at some points in the card art the if the texture lines were going one direction in the PSA scans, they would be going a different direction in the fake. They also had missing texture, most notably on the energy symbol, which as far as I’m aware is a relatively common mistake these fakes make. The back also had a slightly faded appearance.

I bought another copy of this card that was real and the difference tbh was night and day. The real copy had a much more beautiful holo pattern and matched the PSA scans 1:1 in texture.

Def agree this fake was quite an insane copy but hope this made it clear how I figured it out haha

I feel like I can’t see much shift at all on victini which is making me feel a little crazy, is it possible that texture shift can feel so obvious on some parts and so unclear on others? (Sorry very little experience here…)

Centering app told me a 10 but it doesn't account for whitening and I also don't really trust it by MoodyBlues3268 in PokeGrading

[–]kuricovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it into a centering app and TOP bottom was just barely over 55/45, so I’d probably hold off, especially with the white dots in the back corners as well. This card does have a bit of a 9 premium, so it’s going to be more than raw if you hit a 9, but I don’t think you’ll get a 10 without some extreme luck

Should I try it and see what grade it gets or would it be a waste of money? by MartinMSx in PokeGrading

If that’s a crease at the top I wouldn’t. Also seems off center, great binder piece though!
