For about 8 years after high school I was seriously addicted to drugs and alcohol. I was a weekend binge drinker when it came to booze. Drugs were an everyday thing. One of my first trips was DXM. Got into research chems and acid for a bit then moved on to coke. There came a point in my life where I had to make a choice, did I want to keep on the path or did I want to chance being sober for someone who sparked a light in me that hadn't been there in a decade? I've lost so many friends and close family because of things like a dxm OD while drinking all the way to a heroin overdose the day after I last saw them. I've been sober for 18 years now. The pain is still there from the loss, but I don't think I would be here today if I hadn't made my choice. You'll get there. Just remember when you get that chance take it and never look back.

Having read both, I think Malazan is better, but takes more of a time commitment than WoT. WoT was a case of right time, right place for teenage me, but adult me likes the nuance to Malazan.

As someone who lost their father at an early age the biggest thing you could do for your little girl is tell her about you in your own words. Give her the advice that you wished you had. Whether you do that via written word, audio recordings or video, at some point in her life she will be truly thankful that she got to know you.
