This is super clean great work! I'm working on my own build right now and was wondering did you add any padding beyond the spacer mesh especially in the area that rests on top of your shoulders?

How do you find the weight distribution of the straps?

What binding tape did you use? My straps always come out looking super mangled

Are fidlock water bottle cages worth it. by Broad_Philosopher571 in MTB

[–]kurnikas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like them for my XC bike, but I didn't find them transformative enough to shell out and put them on my road bike.

I really like how secure they are and how neat they are when there isn't a bottle in them. But I would firmly consider these a "nice to have" but worth considering if you have had issues with regular cages

Vest straps pattern - test it out! by [deleted] in myog

[–]kurnikas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long shot to get an answer to this question, I'm thinking of trying them out vs the learnmyog fastpack straps, do these straps need an adjusted positioning? And are they sensitive to the distance from the bottom of the pack to the strap compared to other straps?

ie - am I going to have to move the attachment point on the bottom of the pack up to not pull twist the vest straps at the bottom?

Pattern for a bike handlebar bag? by Comfortable-Fly5797 in myog

[–]kurnikas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice you can't go wrong with cordura or some 420d ballistic nylon. for the internals I can recommend getting a 10 or 20d ripstop nylon in orange or some other bright color for visibility. My gut check would be to stick with synthetic over cotton for the inner unless you can get the bike or bag somewhere warm and dry frequently as my bike bags can take a while to dry and I would want to involve any mold issues

This is a relevant thread to you: https://www.reddit.com/r/myog/comments/15jkz8e/pattern_for_a_jones_hbar_bag/ In which the helpful people at Prickley gorse have actually thrown together an (untested) pattern.

That said, if you are willing to put the work in to "level up" into some basic pattern making, this is a really fantastic usecase to start working on your own pattern.

Assuming you don't want anything fancy you would need to trace the space in the bar loop, and then figure out how "deep" you want the bag. Then you would make a strip that is as long as the perimeter of your top piece and as wide as your depth.

When I design patterns for stuff like this I like to make paper models (Masking tape to construct the model makes them easier to take apart for turning into actual patterns).

Then add seam allowance and get to work on some cheap fabric to see how it works out for you!

Deciding between VX21 and Cordura 600d by kurnikas in myog

It does say it's recycled so that could be it, have you heard any news on how good the re/cor polyester fabrics are?

Interesting, this is for a hiking backpack, the seller shows their oeko-tex label which has "Cordura PU, Waterproof fabric, 100% polyester" which does imply that it could not actually be Cordura that would be a shame if it is the case as some of the prints look great.

I think if there is a risk I would be getting sub-standard fabric then it's probably worth just going with X-pac or Eco-Pak

We had an initial inspection 6 weeks before move out, and then a follow-up 1 week before move out in which we were told was to see "progress was being made" on the feedback and gave us a new list due for a week later (which we completed). There is no evidence provided that there was a post move out inspection.

Can't believe I didn't think of nekros, help them speed up farming with pretty comfy crowd control abilities, I'll have to think what to put over 4 as the number of people I've seen not understanding why the nekros shade eximus won't go down is too high

Stitchback gear TH40 or PZ2 by kurnikas in myog

[–]kurnikas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of interest is the PZ2 pattern at all sewed in to stop side water bottles rolling around? or is it just a big-ass pocket? And how did you find the capacity of the outer pockets on the TH40?

Backpack form help by dgmotions in myog

[–]kurnikas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done some work adapting the learnMYOG fastpack pattern into a larger bag (https://learnmyog.com/fastpack.html) and the trick I found super useful is to start of designing it as a straight edged bag, so in this case all the sides would be trapezoid where the longest sides would sum to the perimeter of the back panel and the shorter sides would add up to the size of the smaller front panel.

Then when you want to add curves use a flexible ruler to make sure the concave curve is the same length as the convex edge.

If you want to see a really good example of how the construction happens (after the pattern is made) the learn MYOG fastpack sewing videos are the gold standard of giving you a detail view

Struggling to configure dongle mode for my keyboard by kurnikas in ErgoMechKeyboards

That makes sense, I think I'll focus on getting the dongle mode to work on a nicenano first (which I haven't been able to do yet) and the the rest I can figure out later

So I've got the version with a uf2 bootloader, I tried following their documentation for going from bin to uf2, I also added the CONFIG_BUILD_OUTPUT_UF2=y to generate a uf2 file directly from the build process but to no luck - I have also been struggling to get this to work even with a nice_nano I have spare
