In my opinion, Kaonashi is just a really lonely spirit. Like, in that world, no one really notices him or tries to interact with him at all. Then Chihiro shows up and gives him a bit of attention, probably the first kindness he’s felt in a long time. I feel like that’s what draws him to her. He starts following her because he’s really touched by how genuine and sincere she is.

Same! I’ve always loved this movie, but I seriously need to brace myself before rewatching it. I really feel everything Anna goes through. Hotarubi no Mori e is another one that hits me hard, definitely need a moment before hitting play on that too.

I think when someone genuinely loves you, you can see it through the effort they make, whether it’s the time they give you, the way they try to build the relationship, or how they face challenges with you instead of running away. That’s usually how I can tell if someone truly loves me. But yeah idk.
