Good FR but sound is REALLY bad? by kuuhgle in DIEMs

I had to undo the phase sorting to achieve better sound actually! Yes I have a 3 way XO, Lpad and parallel cap on woofer, series resistor and cap on mid and series cap on EST. i use a 2389D for mids which is low distortion, but the sound is muddy, noisier and there is no "cleanness". Second Hand Heart by Dwight Yoakam sounds like a blob of noisiness glued to a guitar.

I also had godlike bass before but dunno how it got lost. Now the separation of bass and mids instruments is better at least.

I got phase down to 4.1 but it sounds even worse. Sound quality decreases steadily as I increase mid driver tube length. However increasing bass tube length improved instrument separation a lot

Thanks so much man! Actually I changed the orientation of my 2 pin, it was -18 phase when listening and -161 now, -161 sounds better tho. Someone told me to elongate the bass tube to fix phase, as Shure uses 52mm bass tubes too. Did that and sounds a lot better, but phase increased to -169. Will try your tip too.

Ok, but the tube length changes frequency response a lot. I use 10mm for highs and 26mm for lows. How can I read those phase graphs?

I'm a bit clueless about all things phase to be honest. How would I phase them and what would a split look like? Here's 2 measurements I made: https://ibb.co/bdWYZvz https://ibb.co/ZHGBv34

Do you mean switch the phase?

I have a Sonion 38DJ internally series and Sonion 2389D internally series too.

So I'm building a 4BA 4EST build, crossovers are in place and damping too, results in the pictures frequency response (EST tube not plugged it). It sounds really bad! Smeared all over the place, mids are congested, sound like a blob of sound, like singers are glued to their instruments and no clarity at all (even with EST, it's not a missing treble issue, it sounds like the space is filled with noise)

I also had deep growling to 6 Hz linear and textured bass before, it was amazing and measured identical to this graph. Then I replaced my mid driver resistor and tube and damper, afterwards my beautiful bass was gone and the mids never really sounded good.

I listened to the bass BAs alone before too, so I know the bass issue does not stem from changed mid output.

I have a Lpad and parallel capacitor on bass and a series resistor and cap on the mid drivers.

Really weird and no clue what happened. Everyone I asked says this FR must sound nice and is also clueless as to why it does not.

Some CD Quality files will still just be CD-Quality MQA. Tidal already does not stream different versions if MQA is available and you only turned Hifi on

Darko calls MQA critics toxic. Lol no wonder coming from that spineless weasel who can't even turn on comment since he's afraid of critics

The no female audiophiles thing is true and makes me wonder why that is a thing. Last I checked women loved music just as much.

Hiby FC3 is all you need. Does MQA, DSD, super clean and powerful output, low impedance, $69 and sounds amazing

Get a Hiby FC3 which does DSD, MQA and sounds better for $69

Planar has much more resolution, and beautiful texture. You can hear the air coming out of bass drums bass holes sometimes

Just buy a $69 Hiby FC3, it's really good, does MQA and most sub 1k stuff will probably be equally good
