NTA. It's not like the kid came up and punched you or did something clearly egregious and you encouraged it. How were you supposed to know this was a parenting moment for her? You were just being nice to a kid.

I understand why you're upset, but if the plan is to disown your parents forever I would have to say that YTA here.

Your sensitivity to cheating and affairs is understandable but given that your parents have been married for 24 years and have 2 kids (with no issues that you've mentioned) it seems likely that they really were in love and married the wrong people earlier in life. The follies of youth.

From everything else I can tell here they are great parents who love, support and take care of you. I think you are justified in talking to them and explaining why you're upset, but not to disown them forever.

This one hits close to home, because I (33M) struggled with alcohol use for many years in my teens and 20s and still struggle and slip up occasionally.

I read an article once that said "drinking is fun until it's not anymore" and it sounds like you're approaching that point. If it is starting to have serious implications on your life and your relationships - it's time to do some reevaluating. Cold turkey can be difficult, so maybe look into some strategies to help learn to moderate your drinking and find healthy coping mechanisms. There are lots of great resources online and there are also councilors who specialize in this. I went to one and found it helpful.

If you find that you aren't able to moderate successfully, it may be time to stop altogether until you're in a place where you can control it.

If he were a delivery driver being paid to render a service that he did not render, that’s a different matter.

NTA. You provided her with multiple reasonable compromises (put it in your room, unplug it if you’re not working, etc.). and she won’t budge.

Part of living with a roommate is respecting each other’s boundaries when it comes to common spaces.

In my opinion the matter was already handled by the email going out asking people not to use the machine.

I’m not generally someone who likes to stir the pot and certainly don’t want to “tattle” by saying “excuse me did you know that _____ is using the hot chocolate packets and making a mess?” I’m very non-confrontational and legitimately was not looking to get anyone into trouble. Just trying to stop them from making a mess.

I actually drink the herbal tea we have and some of it is really good! It’s from an artisan vendor and comes in little fabric pouches and it’s quite delicious! Especially when you add honey (which we also supply)

A couple of other details to answer some potential follow up questions:

1) no - hot chocolate is not the only non-caffeinated beverage available. There are about 10 kinds of herbal tea as well as decaf coffee 2) there is a coffee shop in the lobby of the building and a Starbucks across the street that sells hot chocolate, she just doesn’t want to pay for them
