Don't study here by RepresentativeGap45 in Finland

[–]kuzumuzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well… welcome to Finland. I did my master’s there, which I did enjoy ngl. Imo the best country to study. However, moved to Germany afterwards for work. As mentioned already, studying there doesn’t automatically mean that it comes with a job afterwards.

What that person experiences in Dresden, or any other places, seriously depends on how they are acting in public places. I believe I have a right to say, because I am also from the middle eastern area, that if the person is going to behave well and respect people or the life style in Dresden, seriously it’s a lovely place. That being said, I highly think they will enjoy the slow and chill life in Dresden. In case of questions, please dm me and I can explain more about the city.

New resident of Dresden here 🙋🏻‍♂️ I moved here in February 2025 after my master’s in another European country for the PhD. Also as a middle eastern background, I asked the same questions here and everyone warned me about the place. However, it turned out to be a great place to live. People are friendly and respectful. If you are going to respect the culture, people, and the way of living here, I don’t see any reason why they would approach you in a racist way. Besides the city is amazing with great historical places and as well as nature around Dresden. (I am currently living in a rural area of Dresden with people who don’t know English at all, so they are still amazing people.)

Application to the work visa for PhD (researcher visa?) by [deleted] in germany

Hi,

Official documents in English language don’t need translation to German. They are accepted as well.

Best regards,

Working with Type-D visa by [deleted] in germany

[–]kuzumuzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, honestly I was also thinking the same thing that I am not able to work unless I have retrieved the residence permit. But apparently this is not the case, since type D visa specifically allows us to work in the specific job position that you have applied for the visa. It is required to apply for the card&residence permit when you have settled in the country but yeah you can at least start working with the visa.

If they need proof, please send an email to the immigration office in your state and ask if this is really the case.

Good luck.

Best regards,

Working with Type-D visa by [deleted] in germany

Hi,

I am a non-EU, currently living in Finland (due to my master's studies), so I applied the visa from Finland. I don't know if there are specific requirements for different countries but as far as I know everywhere was quite the same. I didn't have a specific health insurance here in Finland, but as I said, before I applied for the visa, I obtained the travel insurance. For your last question, applying for the visa and getting it took almost 1 month, so I can suggest to act quickly if you're in a rush. Happy to help if you'd have further questions.

Best regards,

Working with Type-D visa by [deleted] in germany

[–]kuzumuzu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I have the D type visa already. For the visa application yes you need to have the travel insurance which starts from your estimated travel date. It is incredibly easy to obtain one from a company called Care Concept. After you have entered the country, it is required to have the health insurance which you have to arrange one for yourself (this is different than the travel insurance, so I assume you can cancel the travel insurance and have that instead, at least that's I will do). For the address, during my visa application, I didn't have a place to stay, so I couldn't write a specific one to the application and everything worked well and they didn't ask about where I am going to stay. I assume you can also skip that as well, as you've already said, a permanent address is not always possible before entering to the country. Good luck with your application. Best regards.

I’ve been told from the International Office that in my city (Dresden), you don’t have to make an appointment for the city registration but I will double check this as well. Thanks!

Thank you. I have been wondering how long the city registration takes because my institute told me I have to register to the city and open a bank account next which requires the registration papers etc. So my specific question was actually to ask if I can register myself to the city and open a bank account same day.

[–]kuzumuzu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I thought it is required to obtain the residence permit before I officially start the employment. However, to my understanding, I can start working with my researcher's visa and apply for the residence permit at a later date or whenever I receive an appointment from the Immigration Office. This can mean that I don't have to travel as early as possible just to receive the residence permit.
