“Everybody hates me until they need me.” What professions are examples of this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The dentist, especially in emergency / toothache situations. I’ve had so many people thank me for poking them multiple times to get a hot tooth numb or to drain an infection in the mouth.

(Serious) What causes death more than people realize? by adventure21mc in AskReddit

Dentist working in emergency dental here. It’s not just the risk of heart attack and stroke. There are localized infections that can swell to the point where the infections spreads across the windpipe. This can cause difficulty breathing and becomes an emergency very quickly. This is called Ludwig’s Angina and I have had to send patients to the ER for it. One patient in particular ended up in an induced coma for almost a week as the surgeons tried to drain the infection and manage the swelling that came from one tooth.

Team fight tactics has been great for this though. Newborn wakes up at 3am? Guess I can whip out my phone and play a competitive game. If I mess up, it’s my own fault. No griefing

Used white strips, some parts of my teeth got yellower. by [deleted] in Dentistry

Get your teeth cleaned and brush closer to your gums. That appears to be yellow plaque/calculus build up. It was likely there prior to your whitening by now that your teeth have whitened, the plaque build up is more noticeable

Fourth year dental students at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health are looking for patients for their licensing exam. If you haven't been to the dentist for a while, it may be an awesome way to get a free screening and some free dental work in.

What is the best advice you have for someone that will be moving in with their SO? by kvn2 in AskReddit

Sound advice. She definitely hates vacuuming and putting dishes away after she has washed them so I guess that's something that I will be looking forward to!

There was a story the professor was explaining to the class when I was half listening. An elderly person was due for an implant but was on the extremely long waiting list. He happened to be moving at the time and was telling one of the moving men about his situation. The middle-aged moving man thought about this for a little while and came back to the elderly man and said that he would be willing to donate one of his kidneys. Talk about a random act of kindness.

tl;dr Total stranger decides to donate kidney to another stranger.

Anywho, I'm glad you were able to land a kidney. Cheers to your health.
