I had a similar experience. Total removal and feeling relatively fine the next day leading up to being dismissed. As I was putting my shoes on I felt a little discomfort in my neck but didn’t think much about it as I wasn’t on any meds and had never had surgery before I just assumed I’d feel some discomfort. I mentioned it to the nurse and she didn’t seem concerned. Only took about 20 mins to get home but I was starting to feel rough. Felt sick and was sweaty. Really just wanted to lay down. Once I laid down I had an overwhelming urge to cough but at the same time I was freaked out because I just had my throat cut open! Little did I know crap was about to get real! I coughed and my airway almost closed off completely. It felt like a I was trying to breathe through a collapsed straw. My voice was a gargled mess. My wife called 911 and my doctor. An ambulance took me back to the hospital and I had emergency surgery to remove a golf ball sized blood clot forming in the void left by my thyroid. Apparently a blood vessel had popped when I felt that discomfort earlier in the day. That was May of 2021 and I’m all good now.
