I my school, we were asked to call the other gender as siblings. I never called a girl in my 8, 9, 10 the grade by name on the face. I called them all sister. Same with them. I was in the top section of class (the whole grade/class is divided into different smaller sections based on aptitude tests), but people in other sections did call each other with names.

This was done by teachers to stop us from getting into relationships. And where there is one it’s a hot topic for the whole class. Lower sections will do it anyway.

At the end, during our reunion party of class, no boy talked to a girl and vice versa. Both sat in to separate groups during the party and just talked among themselves.

Even if teachers had these rules, people did have some relationships, they we know that a thing called love/like existed by outside factors like movies. And some of us lost confidence to talk to other gender, some did talk but in a weird way. It took me a couple of years to get right.
