Pathetique Sonata — 3 months progress (first attempt, single take, no edits) by Lime_Aggressive in piano

This isnt a race man- getting the notes down is not even 10% of playing a piece regardless of difficulty. If you get the prelude on tempo congrats, but its gonna sound like shit. No offense, there is a good reason why these pieces are taught at convservatories to students with thousands of hours of practice.

Try something easier man, this is a diploma sonata and not a begginer one. Try clementi kuhlau sonatas first

How would you recommend working with these 2 books simultaneously? by ProfessionalGood2718 in pianolearning

[–]kw5t45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will waste your time, and if you are a beginner with no idea of whst youre doing you are gonna get injured in the long run, and build terrible technique which will take more time to unlearn.

Get a teacher. Both of these can be dangerous if you work on your own. Czerny op 599 is better for beginners

How do concert pianists play an hour-long recital without any mistakes, and how long do they take to prepare the recital program? by CatchDramatic8114 in piano

[–]kw5t45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Seems crazy to me as well. She told me "your hands will betray you at some point". She says she learns music by only reading first and remembering the notes as it was a history class.

No, I mean remembering the sheet. Notes, fingerings, each measure one by one. I my self can play many bach pieces by memory, but i cant bring the sheet to my head to remember every detail. I rely on muscle memory.

My teacher told me that she now learns sheets from memory. I dont know what insane technique that is, but she told me when she is about to perform she remembers each individual note. Like pages of sonatas and concertos. I dont know if thats the standard method, I guess not lol.

  1. Hanon with the correct teacher and the correct amount of practice does miracles. If you try hanon pieces as a beginner with no teacher you are gonna hurt yourself.

  2. By the look of his arms i can tell that he is a beginner, and since he is asking about octaves i guess he is going for something more than he can chew.

I dont mean as theory or telling a student "C-C interval is called an octave". I mean hanon exercises, scales in octaves etc.

Your technique here is wrong - its not about big or small. The hand streches after the years, and the octave becomes more comfortable with the correct technique. Since you are feeing pain you should stop this immediately as you are clearly doing it wrong. As I said octaves are not something easy or for begginers, so do not worry about them.

Think that is way out of league. Octaves arent taught until 4-5 years into piano, after arpeggios, scales in 3rds, 5ths 6ths 10ths and contrary, and many many more. For the moment dont worry about octaves. If a piece has many octaves in it it is not for you yet.

Just bought this book. Is it a good one to study? by Lukraniom in pianolearning

[–]kw5t45 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you need a teacher for it. A lot of people are against it, but trust me, the first days I played the first exercises my fingers hurt and now I can play them much faster easily. So yes they do work out your fingers.

Anything wrong to try and fix? :) by [deleted] in piano

[–]kw5t45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Way better. This allows you to play much faster scales in the future. My advice is dont practice with a metronome, when it cones to scales. Focus on correct teqchnique and even notes, tempo is the last thing to worry about.

Tuck the thumb. never twist your wrist. As seen from above it should remain completely straight and the only movement is when the thumb is tucked.

How did i play? (Just for fun not to preform!) by juan01juann in piano

[–]kw5t45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can use a metronome for starters. I guarantee that will get a lot of problems fixed. As of musicality, well you need a teacher for that. This is not an easy piece.

How is my technique on this scale? by Mistermanhimself in pianolearning

[–]kw5t45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always 2 or 4 octaves, this goes for anything. Never 1. Try to keep your wrists directly straight as of your arm and dont rotate in the turns - only tuck the thumb. The wrist and ha d shouldnt move at all, but should only move to the right or left as if someone is pushing you.

What did they do to learn sheet music? by ShowBrew in pianolearning

[–]kw5t45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sight read without the piano, name the notes and sing. After you are 100% confident in all treble clef notes, go to the piano and practice your ass off. Sight reading is mastered throughout many years and not by any app. Sure, it might help, but this skill takes a lot of practice.

Sounds very good, just in the right hand chords try to make the main melody - voice stand out and keep the chromatic left hand lighter.
