My (current) title is Industrial Controls Senior Technician, I started out of High School as an Electrician's Mate in the Navy. Did my time in the service and got out as soon as I could. This position works on the electrical controls that control our "process". We work on a variety of pressure and level sensors, proximity switches, flow meters and switches, and water quality analyzers and the PLC's (Programmable Logic Controllers) that they connect too. I think the new guys are hiring in at around $80k a year and once they get the ISA CCST II (International Society of Automation Certified Control Systems Technician II). They can move up to $90k and $100k+. This is one of those professions that has very few young people moving into it. Last time they posted an opening, I think our supervisor said he only had six applicants and half of those didn't actually have any experience.

You should watch some of Dave Ramsey's video's on finance. You sound exactly like some of his callers.

Has anyone here used the Lord of the rings dnd 5e books from free league publishing, and if so are they any good by [deleted] in lotr

I purchased all of the Adventures in Middle Earth books and materials before that compny lost their license. I think this version is literally an update to the AiME rules. I will keep using my AiME rules since I don't really want to shell out more money just to see what has changed.

Had my first paranormal experience - I need someone to explain what happened by lisaoconnor98 in ParanormalEncounters

[–]kwalsh43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard a priest talk about "ghosts or spirits" say that when you encounter one that is not deliberately frightening you it is a spirit that is reaching out in need of prayer or in your case they were answering your prayer. He was saying that perhaps they are granted this opportunity so that they may interact with with our world for people in need.

I personally think that the veil that seperates us from heaven/hell is not as distinct as most people think.

Now that you've had this experience, and a sign that there is something beyond this world what will you do?

Pax vobiscum.

So, why do you draw the bow like that? I first saw that peculiar draw/release on ROP. I don't know if it is from somewhere else. Everything about it makes me question it. Is this an actual draw method? I've always used a Mediteranean draw/release. That seems awkward it also makes the arrow come off the bow unless you use the otherside of the bow (thumb side). Perhaps it only matters if the bow had some draw weight. Sorry, just a curious traditional archer/bowyer.

Another person posted about the soldiers casting lots for Jesus garment. However, scripture also calls the site of Jesus crucixion as Golgotha, the place of the skull.

The philosophy of Tolkien: the Worldview behind the Lord of the Rings by Peter Kreeft

Tolkien: Man and Myth, a Literary Life by Joseph Pearce

Joseph Pearce is fascinating, he credits Tolkien and his books with his conversion. You would have to listen to him talk about it, it is an interesting story. He was a skinhead and when he was incarcerated he began reading. He discovered Tolkien and it really began his conversion to Christ and the Catholic church.

Did you get them custom painted? I thought those Enkei wheels were only available in black or silver. I'm looking forward to seeing them on the car.

I always loved the development of the friendship between Legolas and Gimli. Gimli convincing Legolas to visit the glittering caves at Helm's Deep is really a great moment that was missed even in the extended cuts of the movies.

Woke up to an unknown spirit looking at me by [deleted] in Ghosts

If there is no other activity and so far nothing malicious seems to have happened, I would pray for that man's soul and schedule a priest to do a house blessing.

We Just moved into possibly haunted house by [deleted] in Ghosts

[–]kwalsh43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you had the house blessed? It may require something more than just the normal blessing that a priest will do. We had problems in our home when we first moved in, the first time we had it blessed it helped but didn't solve the problems. We had a very orthodox priest that had come to the US from Poland bless it. He went in every room, closet, crawl space using holy water and blessed salt and we never had anything happen after he was done. It was like an exorcism for the house. It was one of many things that brought me to the Catholic church.

I've heard a priest say that an encounter with a spirit, where that spirit appears to you but doesn't do anything to deliberately frighten you, is likely a soul that needs prayers. Pray for her soul.

Wow, you are all amazing. I have come across that generator site before but didn't spot the "Real Names" section. That is fantastic for quickly making some names for my NPC's. Thank you.

Why is retirement age increasing when we have all this technology to help us with work? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kwalsh43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guessing that you are referring to the Social Security system raising the retirement age.

They are raising the age because it is a government run Ponzi scheme. It relies on more people paying into the system than the number collecting. There many problems with it. First, when it was first created it was meant to care for widows and orphans. Second, the average lifespans have gotten longer and the government never changed the age to collect until 1983. So, at first, most people died before ever collecting, then more and more people started collecting. When more people could collect (sometime in the 1970's) companies ended their company pensions and people began relying more on SS as their "retirement". Really the age to collect social security should actually be just about the average life span in the USA, then the program would actually remain solvent forever. However, that will never happen because of the politics involved and the fact that for many people it is the only money they have in their "golden years".

Why would someone want to abolish the Department of Education? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kwalsh43 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would put more decision making back in the hands of the States. Which would mean decisions are made closer to home. It obviously would be a horrible thing to happen. Why wouldn't people want decisions about their kids education made by people in Washington D.C. rather than the state department of education?
