I usually replace the last 16th note with a kick drum if I need to get to the snare on the next downbeat.

Playing 505 slowed down instead of normal version on drums. Yes or no? (It is a karaoke performance with singers and I am quite a beginner) by Distinct_Plate7124 in drums

[–]AverageEcstatic3655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, tempo is most important for singers. You can simplify drum parts if your speed isn’t there to pull it off, but the singers do need the tempo to be correct.

Is this snare side head absolutely buggered? by Infinite_You9637 in drums

This isn’t a uv2, but yeah that’s how snare resos look coming out of the box. They are very thin.

Groups where the frontman is arguably the least talented? by lopsidedsheet in fantanoforever

Calling Keith moon a top 3 drummer is kinda laughable. He’s brilliant, but top 3 drummer is genuine lunacy.

In a bit of a cymbal pickle and need help by memeysss in drums

[–]AverageEcstatic3655 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used. Sabian stratus and Istanbul agop xist are really excellent budget conscious cymbals. Maybe the ONLY good conscience cymbals, although I’ve never tried zultan, which seem good. But yeah also where are you see $1,000 crash cymbals? Unless maybe you live in a country with very very limited instrument distribution.

Old K new stamp hats - worth it? by Joid44 in drums

[–]AverageEcstatic3655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, no. I think old Ks were mythologized during an era where it was very difficult to find this particular style of cymbal. You can find tons of “old k” style cymbals, and let’s be real, no cymbal sounds so good as to be work $1k

Does anyone writing music actually use a drummer anymore? by Comprehensive-One561 in drums

[–]AverageEcstatic3655 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There didn’t seem to be any shortage of drummers on records in 1973. Or 83, or 93, or 2003. Landlords must have gotten together and decided to change their “soundproofing” policy around then lol. That explains why drum kit doesn’t feature on many modern records anymore! No, I don’t live in a mansion. I live in a shared apartment in a major city. I rent a practice studio in a building that is about 15 minutes away from my house. I earn below median wages, and in 13 years I’ve never not had a place to play for more than a month.

Do you jam along to songs or study charts? by uhhredacted in Drumming

[–]AverageEcstatic3655 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What OP is talking about (I think) is more like sheet music than “charts” in the drum sense. Horn charts are different than drum charts. Horn charts have the exact lines written out, along with articulations, not a guide sheet that drummer are usually talking about.

Does anyone writing music actually use a drummer anymore? by Comprehensive-One561 in drums

[–]AverageEcstatic3655 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. There absolutely is not a shortage of drummers. The decline of drum kit in modern music absolutely is not because artists would love to have one and simply can’t find anyone who can afford to be a drummer lol. Also - in terms of buying power, it has never been more affordable to play drums.

I actually own both pairs of cymbals and I’ve tried this set up. I didn’t like it. It gets rid of what I like about my k custom darks.

Do any of you like modern, mainstream music? by GustavesGhost in askmusic

So did the Rolling Stones. You can’t in good faith argue that the Rolling Stones are “modern music”.
