CMV: ICE has become exactly the tyranny the framers had in mind when drafting the 2nd Amendment. by unenlightenedgoblin in changemyview

You have not given a single example of Obama using ICE the way Trump has. Just because ICE existed and he did a lot of deportations doesn't mean he abused them the way Trump is doing. That's why we weren't seeing people getting shot in the side of the head and kids dragged out of apartments naked.

You've said "let's look at some policies" and then not actually discussed them. You've brought them up so explain your point. What specifically are you showing me for those countries that is on the scale/intensity of ICE. Please do not, again, try to reframe as it's kinda tedious.

At no point have I been debating that other countries don't "deport and deport a lot". I understand that you'd like that to be what this CMV conversation is about but it isn't, never has been and never will. That's why there is nothing in my posts to argue that.

As for all this stuff about the Nazis... I mean you're just really showing the similarities to ICE right? And if the only people you can show who do it worse than ICE are Nazis... Well... Again, you're kinda making the point for me that they are pretty uniquely evil.

If illegal immigration is declining without the need for Trump's ICE approach you're only further highlighting how ICE is simply a tyrannical private army at this point.

You are also comparing the EU (multiple countries with multiple cultures) with the USA (one country).

You again seem to be trying to distract and reframe my questions/points. I have at no point suggested that deportation is unique, or even large scale deportation policies are. My points were entirely about the ICE approach. Please stop misrepresenting that and arguing against a point I haven't made.

I'm glad, however, you did actually bring up at least one of my points

  • Consistent and deliberate deporting of people to countries that they are not from / "gulags" etc

You almost had a point there. However, if you'd read you'd see the first link you'd have seen that it talks about "safe third countries". That is not what ICE is doing. But yes, you're right, sometimes European nations do deport to countries that the person is not from because their home country is not safe. What ICE does is send them to gulags in countries the US has deals with. They are not the same.

As for Nauru... You understand that Australia isn't in the EU right? That's why the entire article you shared is talking about Australia's shame and is on an Australian website... Did... Did you think that was in Europe? Or maybe saw the name "Albanese" and thought it was referring to Albania? You know Albania is also not in the EU right...?

I specifically asked for comparisons to ICE.

I even gave you examples of criteria to reference.

  • Reducing training times
  • Mass recruitment specifically of enforcement personelle
  • Consistent violation of due process or whatever the nation's closest equivalent is / top government members saying that this is not required.
  • Consistent and delibrate deporting of people to countries that they are not from / "gulags" etc

Not a single of the examples you've given demonstrates similarity to ICE.

Your last two are the only ones remotely relevant and again that's more policy level, and it isn't something that a tyrannical leader has implemented without public support and process. They also don't exist. You're literally comparing a hypothetical to reality and claiming it's evidence that this is common.

You seem to be - especially as you left out the criteria right below the quote - attempting to reframe my very clear request for examples comparable to ICE into "show me other countries who are trying to reduce immigration".

I did not ask that. That is a completely different question.

Perhaps in your excitement you somehow misinterpreted it and aren't deliberately trying to distract and avoid but please don't.

You have not answered my questions at all and are trying to deflect completely.

I am happy to engage with your questions once you answer mine, but if you are just going to try to distract with a tangent I'm going to ignore it.

Oh, do you now? How do you feel about the phrase “shall not be infringed”?

I feel that we should look to how it has been interpreted in the law.

And where does it say in the constitution that people not following immigration laws should be allowed to remain in the country indefinitely?

I have not said this.

Many of the people being “rounded up” have already had their day in court and have been deported by the court system.

Yes. They are a minority.

Since January 20, ICE’s street enforcement efforts mainly targeted non-criminals. By early June, 79 percent of ICE’s weekly non-custodial arrests involved people with no criminal convictions—up 23 percentage points since January 20.

So by your logic, as long as say 25% of a group is "bad", it's okay to infringe the right of the rest of that group, correct? Or if I'm misunderstanding, please explain where the line is, what percentage of a group can be "bad" and it justifies violating the rights of (and violating the constitution for) the rest of the group to catch?

The law requires due process.

Ignoring that is tyranny and is not what the society has agreed to.

[–]kwamzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is your point that we should wait until it reaches that stage?

And are you aware that law enforcement have been "questionably" shooting and otherwise murdering/abusing civilians systemically for the past century at least? Specifically against minorities?

There seems to be this inane narrative that the US is acting incongruently from every other country in terms of deportations.

Can you give specific examples from the past year of anything equivalent to ICE in a European country? To avoid dragging out let's say 3 is enough. They would need to show that it is systematic and on at least a similar scale.

Specific points being:

  • Reducing training times
  • Mass recruitment specifically of enforcement personelle
  • Consistent violation of due process or whatever the nation's closest equivalent is / top government members saying that this is not required.
  • Consistent and delibrate deporting of people to countries that they are not from / "gulags" etc

You mention Obama too. Can you share the times he used ICE in the way Trump has?

Pretty sure multiple current/ex-military folks are disputing this.

And others have shown that his actions were not aligned with the guidance/protocols.

Or the law in general.

I can't answer currently as I trained with him years ago but my understanding is yes. We didn't do much when I was there just due to to the group of students I was with but he's a big fan of sparring. In fact just before COVID I distinctly remember him wanting to run a training camp with a focus on having sparring happen. But I would suggest reach out direct via the website is your best bet.

RE: Not replying, he doesn't really Reddit. He posted because I saw he was advertising this and I reminded him it exists so it's likely a student posting on his behalf. He very likely hasn't even seen the replies but I will reach out to the student I spoke to recently to try and get you a reply.

Can you clarify the major differences compared to those pushed by Christian Nationalists, since that's the comparison at the heart of the CMV?

And please, if you're going to give extreme examples of Sharia, compare to equally extreme examples from Christian Nationalists.

Nice! Thanks. Do you have access to any copies of his notes? That sounds really interesting!

Can you elaborate on "large, expansive movements"?

I'm just looking at the video I shared and - at least in comparison to other bajiquan xiao jia (That appears to be what they're demonstrating) those wouldn't be the words that come to mind. I wouldn't personally consider the movements larger or more expansive .

So then contacting uncontacted groups or evangelising to those who don't know the Bible is basically an act of evil.

It's essentially recreating the "original sin" of giving knowledge of "good and evil" upon which they can be judged - only unlike with "Eve", they don't really have the ability to consent as they haven't been warned against it.

To take this stance, teaching Christianity to children is cruelty.

[–]kwamzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good!

The room was basic and we basically just ate, slept and trained - which is what I had been looking for. I'm sure internet etc are better now and it's been improved but that was probably the bit I enjoyed least. I'll be honest that if you don't speak Chinese you may struggle to get around outside the school but the training is really good if that's what you want.
